How do you get Cyber Security Courses in Kenya: Full Career Guide After KCSE?

In this post, I’m going to be sharing with you a super sure path that you can follow that will

take you to a job in cyber security within time because people take long because they

don’t know how it should be done. So, if you want to get into cyber security and

that’s your passion read this post about Cyber Security Courses in Kenya: Full Career Guide After KCSE

to the end and go implement what I tell you. You will come to thank me later.

The first thing you must do is;

Get a degree in computer science

Get a degree in IT

Get a degree in BBIT

It doesn’t matter. you need to get that degree first. If you ask me,

I would recommend either a degree in computer science or a

degree in pure IT. There are degrees in forensic or IT security specifically,

but it’s better to do a general ICT courses in Kenya or degree because it will introduce

you to so many diverse topics before you come to special lines. It would be better to

do that broad one because it will introduce you to everything in it including

those that are relevant to security before you come to specialize. So

degrade or ethical hacking courses Kenya first.

The second thing you must do is;

You must get the cyber security certifications Kenya.

I told you HRs loves that degree. But what we love even much more is the

Certifications, and in cyber security having very powerful certifications is

one way of bypassing the veterans because generally organizations the big

ones especially prefer to hire the veterans in the industry. But if you

have done the right cyber security training Kenya certifications, you will be one step

ahead of everyone. You’ll be one step ahead of so many other aspiring cyber security pros.

So which certifications do I recommend? start with;

1. CompTIA A+

This is basically to help you understand the help desk operations. In

other words, troubleshooting and repairing hardware and a bit of software is a good

beginning point because later on you need to be able to understand how

these devices work before you’re able to secure them. So, you can start with

CompTIA A+

2. CCNA

You need to do CCNA. There’s no way you will run from CCNA because again

we are saying how do you secure what you do not understand?

A lot of cyber security roles includes securing the networking systems and the best

way to learn and understand how networking systems work is by doing a

CCNA. Make sure that you learn all of those packet tracer activities, you

simulate if you don’t have the hardware because it’s going to be very

helpful and you also want to pass that CCNA exam. Make sure that you write that

exam and you pass.

3. COMPTIA SECURITY +

This is very theoretical, but I think it is one of the best ways of getting yourself to

understand the lingo of the industry. One of the best ways of getting those

details, getting grasp of every other term in cyber security is by doing

CompTIA security +

Actually, you could do A+ then you can you do security plus and

then of course CCN A. Again, we are saying make sure you get those papers,

make sure you write and pass those exams. And what I recommend is do not

wait until you graduate for you to do these certifications. Why? Because at

the campus you have a lot of free time. So, you can make better use of that free time by

pursuing this even if it’s online cyber security courses Kenya. You can do that on the side

So that by the time you are graduating with your degree you also have these papers,

they will give you a lot of leeway when it comes to looking for jobs, because the next step is starting to think about internships.

4. Now look for the right internship

This is absolutely important. When I say the right internship, it doesn’t mean that you go

look for internship in Microsoft because it may not be forth coming. What I

want you to do is first get yourself busy in the industry and look for entry level cyber security jobs Kenya. But we must note that at this point you may not be doing any cyber security work.

At this point you cannot actually afford it to choose. You cannot afford to select things.

It doesn’t matter whether you are doing;

help desk work

network support

general system administration duties

It doesn’t matter. You want to be there first, why? If it can be a paid

internship, you’ll be miles ahead because you’ll start getting some money.

Yeah, that can help you pay for the next phase of certification that I would

recommend that you do because the other one that we did are just basic and now we

want to get into those that really matter in the industry. If it’s not a

big internship, no problem. You can talk to your parents, your sponsors or get some

ways of raising the cash to support you as you learn these certifications because

they going to be very very important. But most importantly, while you are in

the internship, you are getting to practice whatever skills you have

learned in the past and you have started building on your CV, that is game

changing. You have started adding some projects on your CV. These are the ones

that make a difference later on. So, you got into the internship, and you are

now there whether paid or not, you are now preparing to start getting into the

solid specialized certifications for cyber security that HR will look for and

the guys up there, the current experts in cyber security out there are looking

for. So, let’s start with the ones the HRs are looking for.

CE H (Certified Ethical Hacker) and C I SM (Certified Information Security Manager)

They are not so hard to pass, they build on your previous knowledge.

The other ones that you would like to do is OffSec Certified Professional (OSCP)

and CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional). These ones are a bit

rigorous. So do these four. So, these four are some of the certifications HRs

are looking for.

If you will pass the original screening stage when applying

for cyber security jobs. So, the next ones are going to be dependent on the

specialization that you’d like to take. By now you know the general rules. You

really know a lot. But now you want to decide what specialization should I

take. Now the main ones are Bug bounty or web application security. If you’re

going to go the direction of specializing in web apps security then

you can do it as offered by HTB CBBH1 (Hack the Box Certified Bug Bounty Hunter)

and if you have decided that maybe you are more interested in network security, consider

doing PNPT (Practical Network Penetration Tester) you have done CCNA and here you have

advance on those you can do PNPT.

Maybe these ones are not known by the HR, but the guys up there are experts. Once

they see that you have done a lot of this, you’ll say this’ a guy we are

probably looking for.

5. Start looking for junior roles in cyber security

So, you have a bit of experience. So probably now you might

secure some poorly paid roles or such. You should not choose again. Start with

these small companies. And while you are doing this what you are targeting is

to start building on connections

Okay, start building on the connections because while in this junior roles you

are working with the person in charge of it. You are likely to be

working with senior people and you can be shadowing them, learning from them

and of course, slowly by slowly you are still advancing your skills. Remember

what is very important is that you are continuously improving on your CV. So

you have added something extra to your CV. You have added something extra to

your LinkedIn. What we are saying is you want to do everything in your hearts

even as you are in these junior roles to start out.

So, you are building your connections, you are still practicing, you are

shadowing the most. So, you are running from them. You are attending events

even online events. You are building connections on LinkedIn. So you are in a

lot but you are working very hard on the side to start out regardless of the way

that you are doing that.

6. Be patient and keep hunting

The junior role is what is going to take you to a senior role because as

we said at the start they don’t take freshers; they are going to prefer veterans. You

must become that better over time. So, you have to;

stay patient

keep hunting

keep checking out there.

Keep applying

Keep building

Keep networking

You are going to platforms like Try Hack Me and continuously learning,

documenting everything on YouTube, documenting maybe

everything on LinkedIn, documenting everything maybe on a blog. Stay

consistent and that is how you’ll come and end up securing this role, that is how

it is, that is how it happens because it’s a sensitive line as we keep saying

the good thing is by the time things fall in place, by the time you land these roles,

the reward can be very handsome. It pays well. So good luck and that marks the end

Private Universities Offering Nursing in Kenya:

If you missed out on nursing in KMTC – or you don’t want to compete with the thousands applying for the course at KMTC- maybe you should consider enrolling in one of the Private Universities Offering Nursing in Kenya.

I have checked them out and they are as follows:

Private Universities Offering Nursing in Kenya

AGA KHAN UNIVERSITY – Nairobi and very popular (Owned by the Aga Khan family)

AMREF INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY-Nairobi

BARATON UNIVERSITY – Nandi County

DAYSTAR UNIVERSITY – Nairobi, Church owned

GREAT LAKES UNIVERSITY-Kisumu (Run by the Tropical Institute 0f Community Health & Development or TICH Trust)

KABARAK UNIVERSITY-Nakuru (Owned by the Moi Family)

KENYA HIGHLANDS UNIVERSITY-Kericho, owned by Africa Gospel Church

KENYA METHODIST UNIVERSITY-Meru (Owned by the Methodist Church in Kenya)

MT. KENYA UNIVERSITY-Thika (Owned by Simon Gicharu and trustees)

ST. PAUL’S UNIVERSITY-Kiambu (Owned by about 5 different churches including Anglican Church, PCEA, Methodist Church, Reformed Church, and the NCCK)

UMMA UNIVERSITY-Kajiado (Serves the Muslim community mostly)

UNITED STATES INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY(USIU)-Nairobi (Not for profit institution)

UZIMA UNIVERSITY-Catholic Church Owned (Kisumu)

ZETECH UNIVERSITY-Thika Road

Note that most of these offer the BScN (Pre Service) Programme though a few offer the BScN (In Service – As a PART TIME programme)

I’d recommend that you apply as soon as possible if your dream is to become a nurse..of course we keep saying that nursing is one of the most in demand courses out there.

To apply, go to their respective websites and first familiarize yourself with the requirements and intake details. Then you can choose to apply online or physically (you visit them)

Of course, this information is publicly available from the Nursing Council Website and remember that the Nursing council is the body that controls and regulates the training and licensing of nurses in Kenya (so nursing courses in Kenya fall under them).

Now, if you’ll be studying medicine and surgery in a Kenyan university, this is what you need to know when it comes to Medicine and surgery fees in Kenya:

Well, how much you will actually pay to complete this super marketable 6 year course will depend on the university you’ll be studying in.

So what I have done is this: I have checked around a number of universities offering the medicine and surgery course in Kenya and KUCCPS and compiled a breakdown of how much they are charging for the programme per year.

That way, you will get a clear picture of what it might cost you to do the course in each university offering medicine in Kenya (and that could inform your decision when selecting the university to join).

Here is the actual breakdown (after the fee was revised in 2023)..

Medicine and surgery fees in Kenya (In various universities offering the course)

More expensive universities when it comes to medicine degree in Kenya

Some universities have priced the course higher than others and we will start with them.

Medicine and surgery fees in the University of Nairobi

To study for the surgery and medicine degree at the UoN(University of Nairobi), you will be paying about Ksh630,000.00 every year.

Indeed, it is one of the most costly medical schools in Kenya..

And I know that it is what many of you have been thinking (which is rather unsurprising)- I already mentioned that University of Nairobi is one of the oldest and best known in Kenya so that could be a reason.

Medicine and surgery fees in KU

It will cost you Kshs. 612,000.00 as total university fees (per year) to study a Medicine and surgery degree at Kenyatta University.

Of course, degree in medicine and surgery in Kenyatta university goes on for 6 years so you can do your maths.

Medicine and surgery JKUAT fees

JKUAT is charging the same as KU for the MBCHB Programme so you will again be paying Kshs. 612,000.00 (total university fees) annually to study at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, school of medicine.

The period is standard- 6 years- so you can easily see how much you will spend to complete the course.

Medicine and surgery degree fees at Maseno University

Also levying the same amount as KU is Maseno University for their Medical Degree programme (Kshs. 612,000.00)

Fees for Medicine and surgery degree at Moi University

And if you’d prefer Moi University, you will be parting with Kshs.612000.00 annually (for each of the 6 years) too.

Moderately priced universities

Some private universities teaching medicine in Kenya tend to be moderately priced.

I checked the fees for two on the KUCCPS portal and here is what I found:

Fees for medicine and surgery in Mount Kenya university

You pay Kshs. Sh510,000.00 if you join MKU school of medicine (annually).

Uzima University fees for MBCHB degree

Meanwhile, pay Kshs. Sh592,500.00 if you decide to enroll for Uzima University medicine degree programme (annually).

More affordable universities

Let us turn our attention to more affordable medical schools where you can take the course in Kenya:

Fees for medicine degree at Kisii University (KSU)

Kisii University is not very expensive – you will be paying the medical school at Kisii University Kshs.461,120.00 (per annum) to be allowed to study medicine.

That is cheaper by over Kshs.100000 (every year) compared to the universities in category 1 above

Fees for medicine degree at the Masinde Muliro University of Science & Technology (MUST)

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology(MUST) is one of the very affordable options among the public universities offering the course because you will only be paying (See this!) just Kshs.306,000 each year!

Great news there!…it is so far the cheapest place to study!

What about fees for degree in dentistry (surgery) in Kenya?

Well, there are 2 accredited dental schools in Kenya where you can take this degree..below they are and the fee per year.

The University of Nairobi Dental school

Fees is Kshs.521,000.00 (each year)

Moi University Dental school

Fees is Kshs.612000 (each year)

What about fees for degree in pharmacy in Kenya?

Below is the fees breakdown (per year) for the degree in pharmacy programme in Kenya (in selected universities)

Kenyatta University – Kshs. 428,400.00 (per year)

Maseno University- Kshs. 428,400.00 (per year)

Let me add that you can have the fee reduced for you – the government pays a part or 100% of the fee- if you apply through KUCCPS (recent KCSE graduates) and you then apply for government funding via the HEF funding website.

Reminder: How much you are given as a scholarship (per year) will depend on the category the HEF system puts you in(once you apply).

Otherwise, prepare to meet 100% of the cost if you’re self-sponsored.

Please remember to have some extra cash somewhere to meet your living expenses and other applicable charges (e.g. stationery cost, travelling, PRACTICUM, and the like)

Lastly, international students pay the fee above too.

PS: The fee can change abruptly so be sure to check with UON’s finance office if fee is still the same

Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery UON requirements: University of Nairobi is one of the best universities when it comes to bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery courses (M.B: Ch.B Degree)

Now, if you want to join them, below are the minimum Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery UON requirements – the grades you must have to join UoN under KUCCPS or as a self-sponsored student (Module II student)

Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery UON requirements for government sponsored students (KUCCPS applicants)- Bachelor of medicine and surgery UON cut off points

If you’re applying through KUCCPS (Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service), then theoretically you need to have met the following requirements:

Attain the set University entry KCSE Mean Grade for the year you did your KCSE Exam (minimum aggregate grade to join university)

This has, for a long time, been a C+ aggregate grade

Other requirements

On top of that- and this is where things get a little bit blurred – you must meet the set grades for each cluster subject considered when calculating the required cluster points for the UoN Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery Degree.

Now, nobody knows for sure how the overall cluster points are computed by the KUCCPS system so your best bet is to log into your KUCCPS student portal and then try and add the Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery Degree into the course basket.

This is what happens:

If you have satisfied all the pre-determined KCSE subject cluster points requirements, the system will accept to add the course.

Otherwise, you’re told “you haven’t met the cluster requirements for the course” automatically by the system and it won’t add the programme.

Remember I said theoretically at the beginning – it is because ,for the most part, only those who have passed really well get an opportunity to study to become doctors at UON.

You see, because competition for slots is so stiff- do not forget that UON is one of the best when you talk about medicine courses- the system tends to favor A students …

In short, I think it is programmed to first pick those with the best grades – and you can only get a chance of being selected if the number of applicants with the best grades does not fill up the available slots.

On a more positive note, we know which subjects make up the cluster grouping for the course at UON.

Below are the four subjects that make up the cluster grouping for the course, just in case you have been wondering:

Alternative A group of subjects

Physics/Mathematics

Chemistry

Biology

English/Kiswahili

Alternative B group of subjects

Mathematics

Physical Sciences

Biological Sciences

English/Kiswahili

So the cluster points calculation will be made from the above subjects (either grouping, depending on what you did at KCSE – you may, for example, have taken Biology instead of Biological Sciences)

Conclusion?

The best way to be sure if you have qualified for the Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery at UON is by attempting to add the course to the course basket once you log into your KUCCPS Student portal…

Period!

Now proceed reading below..

Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery UON requirements for self-sponsored students (privately sponsored applicants)

Here is the thing: If you did not get the aforementioned entry grades to join under KUCCPS, you can try your luck under Module II (if your parents/sponsors can fund you).

You will however need to satisfy these set minimum KCSE requirements:

KCSE Mean (overall) Grade: C + (i.e. C plus)

Other entry requirements (cluster subjects and needed grades):

Biological Sciences/ Biology – B plain (minimum)

Chemistry subject– B plain (minimum)

Mathematics/ Physics– B plain (minimum)

Languages (English or Kiswahili)– You must have B plain (minimum)

Alternative bachelor of medicine and surgery requirements in Kenya (at UON)

You might also get a chance if you have these qualifications:

A Diploma course in Medical Sciences

In addition:

C+ (plus) mean grade in your KCSE plus a C+ (at least) in these four cluster subjects:

Biological Sciences/ Biology

Mathematics/ Physics

Chemistry

Languages (English or Kiswahili)

OR

Have a Bachelor’s Degree (undergraduate degree) in any Biological-Science area – it should be from an accredited University

So, see if you have qualified and go ahead and apply for the Module II programme…

I should add that you make your application online via the website or by visiting the admissions office and making the application physically(carry all your documents including the result slip)

Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery University of Nairobi requirements – recap

As you have seen, there’s no way you can tell what the bachelor of medicine and surgery UON cut off points are accurately.

For that reason, to be sure that you have qualified for the Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery at UON, attempt to add the course to the course basket once you log into your KUCCPS Student portal…

That should give you a straightforward answer- of course, you want to go ahead with the application if it has accepted.

Otherwise, if it tells you that you have not met the minimum cluster points (which by the way keep changing every year), you could try the Module II route (And I have shared the requirements to help you see if you are qualified)

All the best from all of us here!

Degree in orthopaedic and trauma medicine in Kenya requirements: In this article, we shall be speaking about a Degree in orthopaedic and trauma medicine in Kenya.

Read on if you are one of those who have been Googling “Degree in orthopaedic and trauma medicine in Kenya requirements” because the information we are about to share is important to you.

Degree in orthopaedic and trauma medicine in Kenya requirements

Even before I tell you about the Degree in orthopaedic and trauma medicine in Kenya requirements, the first question is “Which University offers Degree in orthopaedic and trauma medicine in Kenya?”

Well, I’m afraid none…not under that title.

In other words, what you should know is that you cannot take a Degree in orthopaedic and trauma medicine in Kenya pure..

Instead, this is what you are supposed to do (How it works):

Step 1: Enroll for a Bachelors in Medicine and Bachelor in Surgery (MBCHB)

Yeah…the argument is that the work done by an orthopaedic and trauma medicine trained medic which includes orthopedic surgery is traditionally part of what doctors do (the Bachelors in Medicine and Bachelor in Surgery curriculum covers that) so the correct degree to do is the MBCHB

So the correct pathway if your dream is to become an Orthopedic specialist is first the MBChB.

Recall that Orthopedic specialists (and orthopedic doctors) deal with the treatment of patient’s musculoskeletal system(joints, bones, muscles, ligaments, nerves, tendons, and more)

What we are saying is this: You still have to go through the MBChB degree to practice as an Orthopedic specialist (orthopedic doctor or orthopedic surgeon)

That being so, below are the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) requirements in Kenya

TIME OUT

Hey there! Are you looking for the best courses, top colleges and universities, career guidance, and exciting scholarship opportunities in Kenya? Look no further! Join our Facebook page to stay up-to-date with all the latest information and insights on these topics.

So Please follow Kenya Education Guide on Facebook here for more updates about best courses in Kenya, best colleges and Universities in Kenya, Career choice options, Scholarships in Kenya, etc

Thanks.

Now proceed reading below..

Bachelor of medicine and surgery requirements in Kenya

KCSE Mean Grade: C +(C plus)

Other requirements:

Biology /Biological Sciences – B plain (at least)

Chemistry– B plain (at least)

Physics or Mathematics– B plain (at least)

English or Kiswahili– B plain (at least)

You may also be admitted if you have the following qualifications:

A Diploma in Medical Sciences

Plus:

C+ (plus) KCSE mean grade ALONG with a C+ in the above four cluster subjects.

Bachelor’s Degree in any Biological Science area from a recognized University

The issue is, the degree is super competitive so for the most part you need a straight A in KCSE to stand a chance of getting admitted especially if you want to be government-sponsored..

You heard me right…there are very few slots in our universities vis-à-vis the number of students applying for the course.

So, check if you are qualified…

Step 2: Enroll for a Master of Medicine in Orthopaedic Surgery

Now, once you’re done with the MBChB, you are then expected to move to the Master of Medicine in Orthopaedic Surgery(If your goal is to become an Orthopaedic surgeon).

I should add that this orthopaedic surgery degree course takes about four (4) years minimum so you need to plan accordingly.

And remember you cannot jump straight into the course from the MBChB…you must have worked(practiced) for one year (at least) after internship.

So that is it…there is no degree in orthopedic and trauma medicine purely because even if it was there, it would have been split from the MBChB and that probably does not make sense.

What about if you hold a Diploma in orthopaedic and trauma medicine? Which way do you go?

I have noted that some of those asking about the requirements for Degree in orthopaedic and trauma medicine in Kenya are holders of Diploma in orthopaedic and trauma medicine and want to know if there’s a way they can upgrade the Diploma to a Degree.

Well, here is what you should know..

Your best bet is taking a Higher Diploma in Orthopaedic & Trauma Medicine ….it is considered to be equal to a degree by some employers so it might be worth pursuing.

You could even choose to become an expert in the Paediatric Orthopaedic and Trauma Medicine line, which means you enroll for a Higher Diploma in Orthopaedic & Trauma Medicine(Paediatrics) at KMTC.

Keep in mind that the higher diploma just needs a Diploma in Orthopaedic and Trauma Medicine from any recognized institution – and 2 years working experience (post-qualification)

You can check with KMTC (or visit KUCCPS website as now you have to make your application via KUCCPS) when they are going to have their next intake for the course.

So, which are the best degree courses in Kenya?

Well, from our research desk here at KenyaEducationGuide.com, we have compiled a list of the top 10 Best degree courses in Kenya

We share them with you below to help you make an informed decision, if you have qualified for university and you are not sure which degree course in Kenya to take.

Best degree courses in Kenya (Top 10 best degree courses in Kenya)

In no particular order, we have formed the opinion that the following are the best degrees courses to do in Kenya.

Degree in Medicine (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery)

Why?

Well, people will always get sick at some point.

Plus, Kenya had about 27.1 officially registered medical officers for every 100,000 people(population), which is well below WHO recommendation – which is one doctor for every 1000 individuals.

See the massive shortage?

Where to study:

UoN

MKU

KU

Law (Bachelor of Law(LL.B))

Why?

People have been getting into disputes with each other for the longest time – crime has been there since biblical times and won’t be going anywhere(so lawyers will be needed to represent).

Plus, law is also an important part of governance – lawyers are needed in various government departments to guide decision making and policy matters.

Also remember with law, you can even go on to become a magistrate and eventually a judge (go from the bar to the bench).

Where to study:

Daystar University

Mount Kenya University

University of Nairobi

Kisii University

University of Embu

Umma University

Africa Nazarene University.

Nursing

Why?

There’s a yawning shortage of nurses in kenya- Kenya faces a very acute shortage of qualified nurses with just over 60000 nurses serving a growing population of 50+ million Kenyans.

Besides, nurses have a great opportunity to work outside Kenya (many fly out to UK, USA, Canada, Australia)

Where to study:

Dedan Kimathi University

University of Nairobi-Nairobi

Kenyatta University-Nairobi

Maseno University- Kisumu

Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT)-

Pwani University

Aga Khan University

Great Lakes University

Baraton University

TIME OUT

Hey there! Are you looking for the best courses, top colleges and universities, career guidance, and exciting scholarship opportunities in Kenya? Look no further! Join our Facebook page to stay up-to-date with all the latest information and insights on these topics.

Thanks.

Now proceed reading below..

Software engineering Degree in Kenya

Why?

According to various estimates, jobs in the software development field are expected to soar by about 25% between now and 2031 so there’s a huge market for pro software engineers not just locally but internationally- this is mainly due to the world’s increased adoption of ICT

What we like most about software engineering is that you can land lucrative remote software development jobs from the west, if you excel.

Food for thought!

Where to study:

UPDATE: With the explosion of AI (artificial intelligence, we feel that software engineering is about to change and with AI being able to do most of the basic coding tasks, we feel that Software engineering is one of the jobs that might be at risk. So instead choose one of the Jobs AI can’t replace.

Cyber Security & Forensics (Computer security and forensics)

Why?

You see, cybersecurity jobs are plenty and the job market is predicted to grow by, at least, 18% over the coming five years(hackers are on the rampage, everywhere you look).

Keep in mind that cybersecurity involves protecting ICT systems (including computer networks) and more crucially, data from any attempts to gain unauthorized access for whatever reason.

Take it from us: This is one of the surest bets out there…

Where to study:

Strathmore University

KCA University

Engineering Degrees (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and the like)

Why?

The Government of Kenya has repetitively said that Kenya has a deficit of nearly 7000 professional engineers.

And this is across the different engineering disciplines(civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, mechatronics engineering, and more)

So consider taking engineering if you like maths and physics (and, in general, all sciences)….and you are also talented in problem solving (because engineering is all about providing solutions)…

Where to study:

Technical University of kenya

JKUAT

Technical University of Mombasa

Dedan Kimathi University of Technology

Marketing (B.Com-Marketing)

Why?

There is- as it has always been the case- an unfilled need for marketers.

In fact, research has shown that marketing is one of the best degree course in Kenya and even around the globe.

The reason is simple: companies traditionally need qualified and gifted people who can help them push their products out there.

Quick Tip: Combine B.Com Marketing and a Certification in Digital Marketing in Kenya and you’ll be a hot cake once you graduate.

Where to study

Kenyatta University School of Business

KCA University…

JKUAT

University of Nairobi School of Business

Catholic University of Eastern Africa

Many other universities offer the course.

Data science(Bachelor Of Science In Data Science)

Why?

Data is the new oil (or new gold, if you like) hence data scientist roles are projected to expand by about 36% between now and 2031.

That makes Data Science one of the rapidest-growing occupations around the planet.

And this is another course that can open for you remote opportunities from some of the biggest companies in the west (UK, USA, etc.)

But what is it all about?

Well, you’ll be spending your workday crunching numbers (so it’s best for those who are passionate about maths and numbers)..

Think about it.

Where to study

University of Nairobi

Education

Why?

A BE.d (bachelor’s degree in Education) is not likely to go out of market anytime soon….

And you know why……teachers will always be needed because kids are being born daily.

Yeah-teaching and education professionals are needed everywhere.

Don’t worry that the government may not employ you immediately….you’ll be employed before many other guys with different qualifications.

Where to study

Kenyatta University

Catholic University of Eastern Africa

University of Kabianga

Masinde Muliro University of Science & Technology

Pwani University

Climate change degree

Why?

We project that the need for climate change/environmental scientists will be rising in the next few years due to the ongoing global climate change crisis.

Where to study

University of Nairobi Offers Up to a Masters of Science in Climate Change

Universities in Foreign Countries

Best degree courses in Kenya – Final words

Those are some of the best marketable degree courses in Kenya according to us and some of the best universities in Kenya for these courses.

One word: Please do more research before you make your decision and be sure to follow your heart and passion…

In addition, do not forget that sometimes luck can take you on a different path that turns out to be even more successful….

All the best!

Perhaps you want to do nursing (at the degree level) and you are not sure about the exact degree in nursing requirements in kenya….

Well, if that’s you, read on – below are the specific degree in nursing requirements in kenya (for both self-sponsored students and government sponsored students applying for a degree in nursing course in Kenya via KUCCPS)

Qualification for nursing in Kenya – Degree in nursing requirements in Kenya (bachelor of science in nursing requirements in Kenya / degree in nursing qualifications)

General requirements

In general, Kenyan Universities will only admit you into the degree in nursing course if you have the following grades:

Aggregate Grade at KCSE: C+ (C plus)

Cluster subjects & their requirements

Chemistry– Grade C+

Biology– Grade C+ (or Biological Sciences)

Mathematics– Grade C+

Physics– Grade C+ (or Physical Sciences in place of physics)

One language– Grade C+ (That is English or Kiswahili)

Remember the above are, for the most part, applicable to self-sponsored students

Yeah, that is true.

So, what do I mean?

Well, you need to know that if you’re applying for the course through KUCCPS, competition for places is intense….and you often need to have better grades than what I have listed above.

Reason?

There are not many vacancies to study degree in nursing in Kenya (only a handful of universities offer degree in nursing in Kenya) yet many students seem to like the course (so there are typically a higher number of applicants than the lots available).

For that reason, KUCCPS will tend to favor those who have passed better when allocating the slots..

In other words, you might need to not only meet the cluster point requirements for degree in nursing in Kenya but also be well above the cluster points for nursing in different universities

Such is the competition for the vacancies…

In a nutshell, many a time, having a C+ mean grade as well as that grade in the stated cluster subjects is not enough..you need to have registered better grades…and as said, you must have met the cluster points for degree in nursing in Kenya.

Which brings me to the next question….

TIME OUT

What are the cluster points for degree in nursing in Kenya?

Well, what you need to know is that the cluster points keep on changing (year to year) based on so many factors including how many applications an institution received, how well is the KCSE exam passed nationally, etc.

In fact, the universities offering nursing degree in Kenya announce cluster points requirements each year.

And that is fed into the KUCCPS system by those responsible for updating it.

Like now, if you want to see this year’s cluster requirements, you just log into your KUCCPS student portal, then under Programmes tab (Degree programmes), look for the degree in nursing option (under Medicine, Health and Health related courses cluster) and click on it.

Once you do that, choose the option to add it to your course basket…..the system will instantly add you (if you have satisfied the specific cluster points for nursing in Kenya for the course in the university you pick) or tell you that you do not have the needed points.

So yes, that is the easiest way of checking if you are in or out (based on the updated cluster points set by various institutions).

Otherwise, if the data has not been updated (to this year’s), you can check the columns for past cluster requirements to get a rough idea of what you might need to have by the time the portal opens for applications.

Do not forget that you can always take the privately-sponsored route if you have the resources (your guardians/parents) because the grades I indicated earlier are usually enough.

Degree in nursing requirements in Kenya- Alternative qualifications

Your other option is to first pursue a Diploma in Nursing(in a recognized institution such as KMTC) then use the Dip (in nursing/ community health nursing) to apply for the degree.

Needless to say, this time you’ll be paying for yourself (though sometimes you can HELB loans)

Keep in mind that you must have a 2 years experience- post graduation-(at least) to be taken.

Degree in nursing Kenya requirements – Final words

Just to recap, you need the following minimum qualifications to take the course:

Aggregate Grade at KCSE: C+ (C plus)

Cluster subjects & their requirements

Chemistry– Grade C+

Biology– Grade C+ (or Biological Sciences)

Mathematics– Grade C+

Physics– Grade C+ (or Physical Sciences in place of physics)

One language– Grade C+ (That is English or Kiswahili)

Reminder: You may need to have better grades to qualify for the course under KUCCPS (to qualify for government sponsorship) because of the serious competition for places.
