Bridging courses are short-term programs that assist you in bridging the gap between your current academic qualifications and those required to pursue a specific course.

In simple terms, bridging courses allow you to retake the subject(s) that you failed in your KCSE in order to meet the subject qualification required to pursue a specific course.

With that in mind, the following schools in Kenya offer bridging courses:

1.     Bridge College-Nairobi

Minimum entry requirements: KNEC KCSE Exam.

Duration of study: Nine months (three terms) and you can only bridge within three years after sitting for National KCSE secondary examinations.

Is bridging still allowed in Kenya?

Yes, bridging is allowed in Kenya.

In fact, the Kenyan Cabinet recently (on July 18, 2023) approved the introduction and accreditation of bridging courses to improve access to quality university education.

So, yes, students are allowed to take short courses for specific KCSE subjects in order to meet the subject requirements of the course they wish to pursue.

 

How long does bridging courses take?

The duration of bridging courses varies greatly depending on the institution that offers the course.

However, the duration ranges from 3 to 9 months.

 

How much does bridging cost?

On average, the cost of bridging ranges between Kshs.12,000 and Kshs.40,000 per subject taken. The cost can be higher or lower depending on the institution offering the course.
