A brief description of aviation courses in Kenya

Here now is a brief explanation of the aviation courses I have listed above

·         Air traffic control (ATC) course

This course teaches you the skills you need to succeed as an Air traffic controller.

Air traffic controllers are in charge of giving instructions, advice, and other vital information to pilots to help them fly safely, efficiently, & quickly.

Your main role as a controller is keeping track of flights (using radar together with the latest computer technology/systems).

·         Flight Operations Officer Course

Here you are taught the skills and competencies you need to build a career as a flight dispatcher (airline dispatcher/flight follower/flight operations officer).

The dispatcher assists in roles such as planning flight paths while taking into account factors like aircraft performance (and loading), en-route winds, airspace restrictions, thunderstorms and turbulence forecasts, and other risky airport conditions.

A dispatcher will also provide flight following services and advise pilots when (and if) conditions change.

You will find them operating from the operations hub of an airline.

·         Aircraft Maintenance Engineer License Training

This course is for those who would like to become aircraft repairmen and repairwomen (think of an aircraft engineer as a mechanic who services, repairs and maintains airplanes).

·         Private Pilot License

Private Pilot License(PPL) is an internationally recognized training course that allows trainees to obtain the basic knowledge and foundational skills for all their future air-craft pilot training.

As a trained Private Pilot, you can fly an airplane both during the day and at night even while carrying passengers (family, co-workers, friends, etc.).

The PPL training is your first step towards acquiring a Commercial Pilot’s License.

·         Commercial Pilot License

This training entails learning how to fly commercial aircraft including more complicated airplanes even in risky situations safely.

It is what commercial airlines ask for when hiring pilots and should be your next step after completing the PPL training.

·         Commercial Pilot License-Helicopter

This trains you how to fly commercial helicopters professionally.

·         Multi-engine Instrument Rating

This course is essentially the same as IR training, except that it is based on flying multiengine aircrafts.

For this reason, the practical part of the training is usually held on two-engine piston aircraft equipped with a deicing system plus a stormscope.

·         Airline Transport Pilot License(ATPL)  Training

An ATPL is the highest level you can go to when it comes to aircraft pilot certificate.

Those with this certificate work as airline transport pilots and are permitted to act as the pilot-in-command on assigned air carriers’ aircraft.

In fact, pilots must hold this certificate before being allowed to be the pilot-in-command on an airplane with 9 (or more) passenger seats.

Training is extremely rigorous.

·         Private Pilot License(Helicopter)

This Aviation training takes you through helicopter lessons that allow you to fly a private helicopter.

It is a pre-requisite for those who want to join the Commercial Pilot License-Helicopter training.

·         Instrument Rating Training

An Instrument Rating(IR) training is an intensive training that is mainly focused on flying only by referring to instruments.

Now, a well-trained and pro instrument pilot can easily fly an aircraft from point A-to-point B without needing to look out (the window) except for take-off and landing, making it a truly remarkable skill.

You can go for it after acquiring your pilot license.

·         Flight Instructor Rating Training

This teaches you the additional skills you need to work as a flight instructor- it is intended for pilots who would like to practice as teachers/instructors to students who are learning how to fly.
