Intakes are typically in January, May, and September every year- apply well in advance of the month you want to join. That way, you will have enough time to prepare to join your dream institution.

Hair Dressing Level 4 Artisan Fees Structure

Annual tuition fees is uniform – you pay Kshs.67,189.00 – across all public TVETs.

Then you must add examination fee (separately), administration/other charges – which comes to about Kshs.10,000/-, and obviously about accommodation fee.

For exam fee, core unit is about Kshs.1000 per unit and basic Kshs.700 per paper.

About Government scholarships for Hair Dressing Level 4 Artisan course

One huge advantage of learning in a Public TVET is that you may qualify for government scholarship ..

Just note that the amount you are given as scholarship usually depends on the category or band you are allocate (once you apply on the HEF  – Higher Education Funding- website)

Hair Dressing Level 4 Artisan Examinations

The examination body is now TVET-CDACC and not KNEC.

TVET-CDACC means Technical and Vocational Education and Training Curriculum Development, Assessment and Certification Council(TVET CDACC)

But you can also take NITA exams- but the course is called Hair Dressing Grade 4- and you take 6 months.

Let me add that exam comprises of both practical (for core units) and theory (for basic units).

Keep in mind that you will be doing internal assessments while studying and the scores you get in these are also aggregated in your final grade so be sure to take the assessment seriously.

How to apply

If you want to take the course in one of Kenya’s over 200 public TVETs, you must wait for the KUCCPS portal to open to apply.

On the other hand, if you are okay studying with private TVETs, check the one nearest you- they admit students nearly every month so you can apply directly to the college and join almost immediately.

Where can you work after graduating with Hairdressing Level 4 or Artisan In Hairdressing Course?

You can work mainly as a Hairdresser & Barber (you just need to be perfect in various hair styles and haircuts)- by the way some of the most popular styles today include knotless plan lines, Ghanaians, and dreadlocks

Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy Trainer(Instructor)- but this needs you to upgrade to Level 6 Diploma in Hair Dressing

You can also open your own thriving barbershop or salon – or even a big beauty parlor once you have gained enough experience and you feel that entrepreneurship is actually where you want to be for the rest of your life.

In addition, having more skills such as nail technician could make you even more marketable!

What next after graduating with a Hair Dressing Level 4 Artisan Course?

You can obviously look for employment or progress to a Hair Dressing Level 5 Certificate Course and later on a Hair Dressing Level 6 Diploma Course.

I always recommend that you first get all the papers before getting into employment as it’s going to be hard to go back to College, once you taste money!

Hair Dressing level 4 (formerly Artisan Certificate In Hairdressing And Beauty Therapy) is an entry course into Kenya’s Hair Dressing & Beauty Therapy industry.

Here are details about KNEC Mid Year KCSE Exams including how to register and who’s eligible.

KNEC Mid Year KCSE Exams (KNEC Mid year KCSE Repeat Exams)

KNEC(Kenya National Examinations Council) decided to introduce mid-year KCSE examination series, which are going to be done for the first time this coming July 2025. 

What motivated KNEC?

Well, since KCSE is ending in 2026, KNEC and the ministry deemed it fit to come up with a programme to help you -and any other candidate- who wish to repeat their KCSE exam do so soonest before KCSE officially ends (remember we’re moved to CBC system)

This programme also targets those who wish to have a KCSE certificate and have been attending adult KCSE tuition classes(or studying privately).

Who can apply to sit KNEC KCSE Mid-Year Repeat Exams?

• Repeat Candidates: Apply if you’re unhappy with the grades you got and you want to improve them (so as to qualify for your dream course).
• Absent Candidates: Apply too if you missed your previously-booked KCSE exams due to serious reasons such as falling sick during the exam period.
• Adult Learners: Anyone not enrolled in a normal secondary school(KCSE Private candidates) but wants to have a KCSE cert (you must show proof of sitting KCPE).

NOTE: It’s important to keep in mind that current students in Kenyan  secondary school cannot apply for the KCSE mid-year exams. 

How to register if you’re considering repeating KCSE exams

• Period to register: January 27- February 21, 2025.
• Procedure: You register through KNEC portal- please see your local sub-county education officer for help (they are coordinating the whole process). You can as well visit your County’s Director of Education office at your county headquarters.
• Requirements to be registered: 
  • National ID card, birth certificate (passport can replace ID).
  • KCPE certificate.
  • KCSE result slip(for repeaters).
  • Passport-sized photograph.
• Fee: Ksh ,200.00,and you pay it via e-Citizen. You will be assisted by the local subcounty official.

Where will the exams be held?

KNEC will administer the KCSE mid-year exams at various county headquarters (they will communicate to you where to go), and experienced teachers will supervise and mark them. 

When can you expect the results?

The best part is that results will be out almost instantly- in August 2025- because they want you to have a chance to join college/university in September, just like everyone else.

UPDATE:

The High Court has temporarily halted  mid-year KCSE exams so the whole registration process is currently suspended.

This is after one  Dr. Magare Gikenyi filed a petition, challenging the initiative. 

But the good news is that the ministry has said that they’re moving to court to apply for the lifting of the suspension.

Let’s hope for the best- be sure to keep an eye on newspapers, social media, and other news outlets to be updated about what the court decided upon appeal. We also expect KNEC and Ministry of Education to also publish official communications from time to time .

Did you hear this: There are no more ECDE courses in Kenya!

Yes, the ministry recently decided to merge these two teacher training programmes to create one comprehensive programme – Diploma in Teacher Education(DTE)

• Diploma in Primary Teacher Education(DPTE)
• Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education(DECTE)

So now you will not have a chance to enroll for either a certificate in ECDE(That’s actually scrapped off now) or even Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education(DECTE), if your passion is teaching the little ones.

Instead:

You can only enroll for the newly created Diploma in Teacher Education(DTE)- and it is important to note that seemingly, graduates of the DTE course will teach pupils from pp1 all the way to grade 6!

So, what do you need to register for the Diploma in Teacher Education(DTE)?

Well, the good thing is that the government has relaxed the requirements (remember there was a time they were asking for a C+?) and now you only need to have at least a C plain (KCSE Mean Grade) to get into the course!

That’s amazing, isn’t it?

So, when are the intakes for Diploma in Teacher Education in Kenya?

Well, it depends on the college you want to study in..but for the most part, public colleges (you apply through KUCCPS) have a major intake in September every year.

Again I have to emphasize that you have to apply through KUCCPS (and not through the local ministry of education offices like it was before)..KUCCPS usually announces when they have opened the portal for teacher training applications through their social media handles so make sure you are following them.

On the other hand, I have seen private teacher training colleges admitting students in January, May, and September.

That’s why I said it depends on where you want to pursue the course..and for private colleges (I will recommend a few below), you apply directly to the college (no going through KUCCPS).

Well, it’s because I don’t want you to see you take a funny course at College/University then end up joining the Millions of Young Men and Women who’re tarmacking in Kenyadespite having beautiful Degree and Diploma Certificates..

Hear this: The World changed when it comes to the job market. Long time ago!

Changed. Forever!

Sadly, you may not have realized. ….so you (or your son/daughter, if you’re a parent) still want to do a Bcom or a Diploma in Criminology like your rich uncle..

Sorry….friend It won’t you rich!

Indeed, many of the so- called prestigious courses of the early 2000’s and 2010’s are pretty much useless these days..they no longer give people jobs!

In fact, having a degree does not guarantee you employment anymore.

Ask them: Many of those tarmacking have excellent Degree papers!

Best courses in 2025- The most Marketable Courses to do in 2025

‍What are the best courses to pursue at College/University in 2025?

‍MEDICAL COURSES

We’re not leading a very healthy lifestyle these days so the need for medical care (and hence qualified medical professionals) will continue surging for the next few years.

Medical Courses I recommend include pure Medicine, Nursing(Excellent), Radiography & Imaging, Dentistry,  and maybe Clinical Medicine..

Engineering courses

Engineering courses are also a potentially great choice for any Form 4 leaver in 2025 since we are rapidly growing infrastructure-wise.

This has created significant demand for skilled engineers- and this is likely to remain the case for the next couple of years.

Engineering courses I suggest include Civil , Mechanical, Mechatronics, Automotive, Electrical & Electronics Engineering (perhaps Medical Engineering too).

ICT and Computer (and AI) Courses

ICT and Computer (and AI) are now ruling the world so this is another nice career line.

‍But beware that here you must be a person who thinks outside the box…(I mean there’s a lot of hustling in ICT) and money is actually found in self employment and innovation when it come to ICT/Computer science.

That is formal jobs are not so many – but if you can start a consultancy, you’ll be in the money (meaning this courses is best if you’re entrepreneurial minded)

Again, stay away from limiting courses such as Computer Engineering and instead go for ‘full’ courses such as ICT (Pure) or Computer Science.

Courses I recommend here: Enroll for a Diploma or Degree in ICT/Computer Science ..and not a fancy sounding ICT/Computer courses such as Computer Engineering(It has a big title yet it has extremely few jobs).

Oh, and ensure you’re specialize in lines such as cyber security , Data Science & AI, Cloud Computing & DevOps , or Maybe Game Development and Virtual Reality (VR/AR), or even UR/UX Design & Human-Computer Interaction – (i don’t like software engineering as AI is taking it over coding roles gradually)

TEACHING COURSES

Kids will always be born- and human educationists will thus be in demand- at least for the foreseeable future.

So take Diploma in PTE(Primary Teacher Education- there’s no ECDE course moving forward), Diploma in Secondary Education, Special Needs Education or a BEd. (depending on your grades).

You can even choose to pursue the TVET instructor line – here you will take a PGDE(Post Graduate Diploma in Education after you complete your degree) or join the Kenya School of TVET after your Diploma/Degree course.

COUNSELLING PSYCHOLOGY

Because we are living in an increasingly dysfunctional World, Depression has become as common as flu nowadays.

So take a Diploma in Counselling Psychology(or degree)

GOOD BUSINESS COURSES

There are plenty of bad business courses(courses such as business management and front office have very few jobs) but all is not lost if your passion is in business..

Take one of:

• HR(Human Resources)– because staff must always be managed in an organization.
• Sales and Marketing(Conventional)– You will never lack a job if you can become a good sales and marketing person.
• Digital Marketing– Learn how to do massive marketing online and see organizations and brands competing for you.
• Real Estate Management– Also not so bad
• Investment and wealth management– Take CFA course/Financial management/Actuarial Science(Degree) and work as a financial advisor.

OTHER COURSES WORTH CONSIDERING

I believe that these too can be great courses- if you want a stable career in the years to come (non-categorized):

1. Building Technology- we will always be building(who doesn’t want a home?)
2. Climate Change– this is the newest crisis to threaten humanity so become a professional and solve this problem for us(we shall pay you well surely!)
3. Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning– take a Degree in AI and see real money as AI takes over our lives!
4. Applied Biology/Applied Chemistry/Industrial Chemistry– These have quite a number of amazing opportunities!
5. Fashion Design– Highly under-rated yet humans must always put on clothes.
6. Surveying courses– Quantity surveying, Land Surveying and all other surveying courses (since real estate and infrastructure development go hand in hand)
7. Welding and Fabrication– as long as we’re building, there will be jobs/business opportunities here
8. Refrigeration and air conditioning– The world is getting hotter and we need more cooling professionals to cool us down
9. Agricultural related courses -such as Agricultural extension, Crop production, Animal Health and Production (because we need food daily!)
10. Renewable Energy Technology– learn solar and other green energy solutions(the world is going green!)
11. Robotics & Automation Technology-You can become a robotics technician/automation engineer, etc.
12. Fintech (Financial Technology)-The finance sector continues to rapidly adopt digital payment solutions.

Remember: The best course is that which can enable you to be both self-employed or be employed(just in case self-employment doesn’t impress you)
