LaSoMa Scholarships 2026
The Laser Enabled Manufacturing of Solar Systems (LASOMA) project has officially opened applications for the 2026 Master’s and PhD Scholarships aimed at strengthening research and innovation in solar manufacturing, AI-powered systems, robotics, automation, and advanced engineering technologies across Africa.

This scholarship program is officially supported by the African Union and co-funded by the European Union.
LASOMA Overview
As you noted previously, LASOMA stands for: Laser Enabled Manufacturing of Solar Systems
And the program specifically focuses on:

In a nutshell, the goal of these scholarships is to build Africa’s research and manufacturing capacity in modern energy and industrial technologies. Zero-defect, zero, waste production and of course, climate change mitigation.
Note that in some African countries, the scholarship funds both Masters and PhDs qualifications (in Kenya, the program funds PhD programs at JKUAT only at the moment)

Who Can Apply? (Eligibility Requirements)
To qualify for the LASOMA Scholarship, you must:
- Be a national of an African country
- Hold:
- A Bachelor’s degree (for Master’s applicants)
- A Master’s degree (for PhD applicants)
- Have a background in relevant engineering or related disciplines
- Demonstrate strong academic and research potential
- Meet the academic and language requirements of the host university (Contact your intended host university before)
Quick-Tip: Female candidates, persons living with disabilities, and applicants from disadvantaged backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply(you get special consideration).

You are required to submit the following docs:
- Academic transcripts and certificates
- Updated CV/Resume
- Motivation letter
- Research proposal
- Two recommendation letters
- Completed application form
- 2-minute elevator pitch video (Required for if you are a PhD applicant)

- PhD Students: 1,230 Euros per month
- Master’s Students: 890 Euros per month
