What are diplomas in education courses offered in MKU?
Well, MKU offer only two diploma courses that we will look at in this section.
Diploma in Special Needs Education
When you take this course, you specialize in teaching special need pupils.
Minimum entry requirements: KCSE mean grade of C plain or its equivalent
Additionally, you must have a C plain in two teaching subjects
Mode of study: Full time and DIBel
Course duration: 7 Trimester when studying full time and 8 semester DIBel
Fee: Ful time -KShs. 27,000 per trimester and DIBel – 8 Semesters KShs. 27,000 per semester
Diploma in Early Childhood Studies
This is a course that you take when you are interested in teaching those little boys and girls in an institution.
Minimum entry requirements: KCSE mean grade of C plain or its equivalent
Alternatively, with a certificate in ECD from a recognized institution you can enroll for this course.
Mode of study: Distance, Institution-Based, and Electronic Learning (DIBel)/ digital learning
Course duration: This course talks you 7 Trimesters to complete
Fee: 7 Trimesters KShs. 24,550 per trimester Distance learning, Institution-Based & Electronic Learning (DIBel) KShs. 24,000 per trimester
How to apply for any of the above courses
How to apply through KUCCPS
To apply for any of the above courses, you can apply through KUCCPS using the following steps.
- Check if the KUCCPS website on net portal is open.
- If yes, go ahead and log in by entering your KCSE Index Number, the year you did your KCSE, and your password.
Side note: Your password is usually either KCPE Index or Birth Certificate Number
- From there, revise or just make a new course application by clicking on the Application/revision tab on KUCCPS website.
- Next, confirm whether you have qualified for the course, you have selected and if yes finish the process by submitting.
Remember, you will have to do the application before deadline since KUCCPS portal closes after deadline.
Also, it should be noted that KUCCPS always announce when it is open through the social media so keep a close eye to get to know when it is open.
Application directly to the institution
Alternatively, you can apply directly to the institution by simply downloading the application form from MKU website or just walk in to the nearby MKU campus and get the application for.
From there, fill it out and attach the required documents that I will list below and then submit the application for to the relevant office before deadline.

Entry qualifications for diploma in education secondary option in Kenya
To enroll for the course, you must have met the following entry qualifications.
However, it should be noted that this is the requirement as per TSC but it may differ depending on the institution.
Entry qualifications
Mean grade C+ plus in your KCSE.
In addition, you must have a C+ plus in at least two teaching subjects from the following: History, Kiswahili, English, Geography, Religious studies, Business studies and Mathematics.
Also, you also must have a minimum of C Plain in English or Kiswahili.

It should be noted with a lot of concern that when pursuing a diploma in education secondary option you must attend the teaching practice(attachment) as required by the TSC.
Also, you must get a TSC number to be in a position to be employed in Kenya.
In fact, you can’t be employed in Kenya without the TSC number in any institution recognized by the government of Kenya.
