So, is strategic management marketable in Kenya really?
Well, my answer is that it depends on where you are in your career- that is the level of management you’re at now.
That is because having a strategic management course can unlock the doors to senior management positions in your organization if, for example, you’re in middle level management.
In other words, taking a strategic management course in Kenya can be helpful if you’re targeting a promotion in your organization (perhaps you feel that you have overstayed in your current management or supervisory role and you want a qualification that can convince decision makers in your organization that you are worth a promotion).
Otherwise, strategic management is generally a senior management course in Kenya and it may not be a good course for form 4 leavers (or anyone who has no management experience).
Having answered the question “is strategic management marketable in Kenya?”, let’s now look at your options if you intend to pursue a strategic management and leadership course.
Certification in Strategic Management and Leadership
This professional short course is designed for Managers, Team Leaders, Supervisors, Heads of Department, Business Owners, County Managers, as well as Leaders and Executives seeking to translate organizational strategies into optimal operational performance.
The course is offered by Kenya Institute of Management (There are a couple of other institutions but I mostly recommend KIM when it courses to short courses in leadership and management in Kenya).
Diploma in strategic management and leadership in Kenya
You can also pursue a Diploma in strategic management in Kenya if you want to take the course at the Diploma level.

MUA is owned by Kenya Institute of Management and can be an excellent option too.

Degree in Strategic Management in Kenya
If you have decided to take a Degree in Strategic Management in Kenya, I recommend you enroll for a Bachelor of Science(B.Sc.) in Strategic Management at JKUAT (Jomo Kenyatta University of Science & Technology).
Below are the minimum entry requirements for the programme:
KCSE Mean Grade: C+(plus) (or equivalent)
Additional requirements
You must also have a grade C plain (at least) in both Mathematics and English.
Alternative qualifications
You may also be admitted if you hold a Diploma in a relevant discipline (including a Diploma in Strategic Management) from a recognized University or College.
Post graduate diploma in strategic management in Kenya
If you have a first degree and you have chosen to take a post graduate diploma in strategic management, try JKUAT too (they do run the programme from time to time).
The alternative is the University of Nairobi – UoN teaches a Postgraduate Diploma in Strategic Studies.
MBA in strategic management in Kenya
If what you have in mind is an MBA in strategic management, check out KU or Strathmore University.

Masters in Strategic Management in Kenya
JKUAT also offers a M.Sc. Strategic Management(Masters of Science in Strategic Management) for those who would like to progress further.
Below are the minimum entry requirements for the programme:
Bachelor’s degree (with 2nd Class Honours -Upper Division- at least) from J.K.U.A.T. or any other recognised University.
OR
Bachelor’s degree (with 2nd Class Honours -Lower Division- at least) from J.K.U.A.T. or any other recognised University plus three(3) years working experience.
PhD in Strategic Management in Kenya

The basic requirements are a Masters degree in a relevant discipline (including a Bsc. in Strategic Management) from a recognized University
