Nursing degree course requirements

To be admitted to any university for a nursing degree program, you must meet the following minimum entry requirements:

A KCSE mean grade of C+ (plus)

Cluster subjects requirements

  • Biology/Biological Sciences: C+ (plus)
  • Chemistry: C+ (plus)
  • Mathematics/ Physics/Physical Sciences: C+ (plus)
  • English/Kiswahili: C+ (plus)

Please keep in mind that the above requirements apply primarily to self-sponsored students.

Why is this the case?

Remember that nursing is a highly competitive course, which means that in order to be admitted through KUCCPS, you have to score higher grades than those listed above.

Again, you must also satisfy the cluster points for nursing as set by KUCCPS.

Furthermore, there are more applicants for the course than there are nursing slots available at the universities that offer them. So, when allocating those available slots, KUCCPS will obviously prefer those who have better grades than those above.

However, with the qualifications listed above, you will be able to gain direct admission to any university as a self-sponsored student.

Alternative qualifications:

Alternatively, if you have a diploma in nursing (with a KCSE mean grade of C) from a recognized institution, you can enroll for a degree in nursing.

In addition, you must have a valid practice license from the Nursing Council of Kenya, as well as two-years of work experience as a registered nurse after graduation.
