Here are teaching courses with C if you scored a C plain in your KCSE and you would like to pursue a teaching course since this is where your passion is.

Well, before becoming a teacher in Kenya, you must attain specific educational requirements.

Additionally, you must also be registered with the Teacher Service Commission (TSC).

And just so you know, the TSC has two mandates, register qualified persons and teachers and review the education and training standards of persons entering the teaching service.

Below are the best teaching courses you can pursue with a C plain in your KCSE.

Diploma in Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE)

If you have passion to teach in early childhood learning environments, this is the course you should  take.

In fact, this is the best C plain course you can take in Kenya among others.

Just so you know, this course teaches you how to effectively engage children through Mathematics, literacy, music, and visual arts.

Along with that, you will also be trained on how to become social with young children, respond to their needs, and be in a position to deal with the children.

Minimum entry requirements

A mean grade of C plain at KCSE

Diploma in Special Needs Education (DSNE)

When you take this course, you gain knowledge and skills to teach special needs students.

In short, you will also gain a greater understanding of the psychology and needs of special needs children, especially those with physical, learning, and mental impairments.

Below are the entry qualifications you must meet to take this course

Minimum entry requirements

Mean grade of C plain in your KCSE

Alternatively, if you are among the student with disability, then you will only need to have a mean grade of C-minus.

Side note: please note that for you to qualify to take this course you must first qualify as a primary school teacher (PTE or DPTE).

Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE)

When you take this course, you become a primary school teacher.

Minimum entry requirements

A mean grade of C plain in your KCSE or equivalent at senior school

Additionally, you must have C-minus in either English or Kiswahili and mathematics.

Also, it should be noted that if you are a trainee with disabilities and special needs, then you should have a mean grade of C-minus with D+ plus in English or Kiswahili and D plain in Mathematics

Diploma in Technical Teacher Education (DTTE)

Here you take a TVET course for example diploma in mechanical engineering, fashion and design and so on.

Now, after taking the course, then you join Kenya School of TVET for a Diploma in Technical Trainer Education.

Here, you become a pedagogy- and qualify after 1 year to become technical trainers in any TVET in Kenya (employable by PSC)

Minimum entry requirements

Mean grade of C plain in your KCSE

Diploma in your preferred teaching area (by KNEC, CDACC).

 

How to apply for the above courses

To apply, you can apply as a government sponsored student through KUCCPS or directly from the institution as a self-sponsored student.

Just so you know, when you apply through KUCCPS, you will benefit from the government capitation but as a self-sponsored student you pay for everything all by yourself.

Application through KUCCPS

  1. Visit the KUCCPS website on kuccps.net (when the portal is open which is usually announced on the social media, TVS, Radio, newspapers or institutions websites)
  2. To “log in” Enter your KCSE Index Number, the year you did your KCSE, and your password (KCPE Index or Birth Certificate Number).
  3. Next, revise or just make a new course application as appropriate by simply clicking on the Application/revision tab on KUCCPS website.
  4. Finally, confirm whether you have qualified for the course, you have selected and if yes finish the steps by submitting.

Alternatively,

You can apply directly to the institution of your choice by visiting the intuition to get the application form or downloading one from their website.

Diploma in secondary teacher education

As for the task force, they have proposed that you can enroll for this course with a C plain.

However, it should be noted that this is on condition the reforms are enacted.

In summary, you need to have the following qualifications

KCSE Mean Grade of C Plain

Additionally, you must have a C+ plus in two teaching subjects.

How to apply

For the mean time you cannot apply through KUCCPS as a government sponsored student until it come to be.

Regardless, you can apply directly to the institution of your choice offering the course or through ministry of education.
