So, is project management marketable in Kenya?

Read it to the very last word if you have been thinking of doing the course…

Is project management marketable in Kenya? / is project planning and management marketable in Kenya?

So, is project management marketable in Kenya really?

Well, here is what you need to know about your job prospects if you take the course:

Now, project management is not marketable in Kenya especially if you do not have another course.

Put another way, project management is more of a support course and is best done as a second course by those who had a degree in courses such as  information technology, strategy, marketing, business management/administration, or similar.

So yeah, my opinion is that you should only take the course if you have a degree in the above fields and you are looking for a certification that can give you an important advantage when searching for employment.

It is actually better if you already have some practical experience in your line of work and you want a promotion at work or you want skills that will enable you to manage complicated projects, particularly in IT.

In other words, project management course is a best match for those already in IT although it can unlock opportunities in other sectors where project-oriented work is common including oil and gas, business services, manufacturing, finance and insurance, construction and utility companies.

Is diploma in project management marketable in Kenya?

There are fresh form 4 leavers who apply for the course through KUCCPS and as mentioned above, it is not really a bright idea if you’re not planning to take another major course.

Of course, there are chances of you getting a good job soon after finishing the course but you need to be sure of what you’re doing if you intend to take the course.

For example, if you (or your parents) have a good network of friends/relatives who can connect you to project management jobs in Kenya, that can give you an edge.

Otherwise, it is quite risky to be satisfied with a diploma in project management only because as I had said, it’s more of a complementary course than a major course(most employers consider it an added advantage).
