Department of Educational Management(Administration) and Curriculum Studies

Overall, the Masters of Education in MKU course has the following Options (specializations) – choose the most suitable.

Entry requirements

Bachelor of Education(Bed) -Second Class Honours (Upper Division) or an equivalent from any recognized university(MKU senate accepted).

OR

Bachelor of Education(Bed) -Second Class Honours(Lower Division) or an equivalent from any recognized university PLUS 2-years teaching experience(at least)

OR

BA( Bachelor of Arts) or Bsc.( Bachelor of Science) degree PLUS a post-graduate Diploma in Education from any recognized university.

Department of Educational Psychology&Technology

Here you can take two masters courses:

  • Master of Education- Educational Psychology
  • Master of Education-Instructional Technology
  • Master of Education-Educational guidance& counselling
  • Master of Education- Sociology of Education
  • Master of Education- Philosophy of Education

 

Entry requirements

Bachelor of Education(Bed) -Second Class Honours (Upper Division) or an equivalent from any recognized university(MKU senate accepted).

OR

Bachelor of Education(Bed) -Second Class Honours(Lower Division) or an equivalent from any recognized university PLUS 2-years teaching experience(at least)

 

Early Childhood Studies(ECS) Department

Master of Education in Early Childhood Studies

This can be a good course if you have a Bachelors Degree in Education-in ECS

Entry requirements

Bachelor of Education(Bed) in Early Childhood Studies(ECS) -Second Class Honours (Upper Division) or an equivalent from any recognized university(MKU senate accepted).

OR

Bachelor of Education(Bed) in Early Childhood Studies(ECS)  -Second Class Honours(Lower Division) or an equivalent from any recognized university PLUS 2-years teaching experience(at least)

 

Special Needs Education Department

Master in Education-SNE (Special Needs Education)

Specializations areas/options

  • Hearing Impairment
  • Visual Impairment
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Gifted & Talented
  • Physical Handicap & other Health Impairment
  • Specific Learning Disabilities
  • Inclusive Education
  • Deaf blindness
  • Emotional & Behavioural Disorders

Entry requirements

Bachelor of Education(Bed-SNE) Special Needs Education -Second Class Honours (Upper Division) or an equivalent from any recognized university(MKU senate accepted).

OR

Bachelor of Education(Bed-SNE) Special Needs Education -Second Class Honours(Lower Division) or an equivalent from any recognized university PLUS 2-years teaching experience(at least)

OR

Bachelor of Education(Bed) degree or BA( Bachelor of Arts) or Bsc.( Bachelor of Science) degree – Second Class Honours (Upper Division) or an equivalent from any recognized university(MKU senate accepted) PLUS 2-years teaching experience(at least) in special school/unit.

 

MKU MASTERS in education courses  offered via the Distance & Institution (school) Based Learning mode

Most of the above courses are taught under the Distance and Institution/school Based Learning mode so they can be excellent, if you cannot manage to attend full-time classes.

Remember that under this learning mode, your studies will be structured as follows:

  1. Assessment of the previous teaching session
  2. Face to face teaching (for some hours when you come to the campus
  3. CATs- this is usually part of the face-to-face teaching / assessment when you come to the campus
  4. MKU Digital varsity learning system/platform virtual learning- you will be taught virtually through MKU’s Digital varsity learning system on specific hours, as per the timetable.

 

MKU masters in education fee structure

Kshs. 60000 per semester- for 6 semesters (Distance & Institution (school) Based Learning mode)

Kshs. 90000 per semester- for 4 semesters (regular mode)

Kshs. 90000 per semester- Digital varsity
