Update about KASNEB new syllabus 2021:

KASNEB new syllabuses will be launched this year, starting from July 2021.

Subsequently, the first examinations under these new syllabuses shall be held in December 2021.

Here is the proposed KASNEB CPA new syllabus 2021 (to be confirmed by KASNEB in due course):

KASNEB CPA syllabus 2021 – proposed structure

Under KASNEB new syllabus 2021, CPA will be sub-divided into three levels and there is an additional paper to be taken depending on the specialization a student chooses.

That said, the total number of papers will be 17 regular with students required to take and pass 1 specialization paper.

Below is the actual breakdown:

 

CPA COMPETENCIES

CPA KASNEB syllabus 2021 revised structure:

CPA Foundation Level (Replaces CPA Part I, Section 1 & 2)

  • Financial Accounting
  • Quantitative Analysis
  • Introduction to Law and Ethics
  • Communication Skills
  • Economics
  • Information Communication Technology

CPA Intermediate Level (Replaces CPA Part II, Section 3 & 4)

  • Company Law
  • Financial Reporting & Analysis(Incorporation of I.P.S.A.S)
  • Financial Management
  • Auditing and Assurance
  • Public Finance & Taxation
  • Management Accounting

CPA Advanced Level (Replaces Part III, Section 5 & 6)

  • Strategy & Risk Management
  • Advanced Financial Management
  • Advanced Financial Reporting

Specializations (Candidates to take one paper)

  • Advanced taxation
  • Advanced Management Accounting
  • Advanced Auditing & Assurance
  • Advanced PFM (Public Financial Management)

Note: A Business & Data Analytics practical paper to be taken.

CPA structure for holders of accounting degree from a recognized university

Holder of an accounting degree shall be awarded exemptions from the Foundation level.

They shall therefore only be required to take the following papers:

CPA Intermediate Level

  • Company Law
  • Financial Reporting & Analysis(Incorporation of I.P.S.A.S)
  • Financial Management
  • Auditing & Assurance (Elective)
  • Management Accounting (Elective)
  • Public Finance & Taxation (Elective)

Important to note: The elective a student chooses will determine the units he/she takes at the advanced level and later at the specialization stage.

CPA Advanced Level

  • Strategy & Risk Management
  • Advanced Financial Reporting
  • Advanced Financial Management

  5. I would like to seek clarifications in regards to the new syllabus.I currently have 2 resits in section 6 ie Advance Financial Reporting and Advanced Audit and Assurance.

    I wish to sit the said papers in November 2020.Based on the change of syllabus,is this possible?
    Will it affect me in any way?

    • KASNEB August 2021 exam dates have been announced. The exams are scheduled to be held from 30th August 2021 (Monday) to 3rd September 2021 (Friday).

      Note: KASNEB August 2021 Exams will be held under the old syllabus. Also keep in mind that all refers/credits that were supposed to expire in May 2021 will now expire in August 2021.

  6. I sat for my CPA III(V) in June 2013 and got a refer in AFM, I wish to make a comeback and sit for the December exam on the same. What’s the way forward,will I still sit for the referred unit or the entire section and will the new syllabus affect me?
