Best engineering universities in Kenya: Engineering is a very good course but it is also important that you take your course at a good university- that’s the only way you can be sure you’re being taught in-demand skills.
More importantly, studying in the best accredited engineering university means the paper you get at the end will be recognized by employers across the board.
Which brings me to what I want us to look at in this article: The best engineering universities in Kenya..
You see, while a number of universities offer engineering courses, some are not even accredited to do so by the regulator/EBK(Engineers Board of Kenya) so you might get a worthless certificate if you study with them.
Fortunately, we have prepared a list of the best civil engineering universities in Kenya (and the accredited programs they’re offering) to help you make an informed decision as you look for a good university to study in.
Here are the best engineering universities in Kenya to point you in the right direction:

Below are their 4 accredited engineering degrees:
- (Bachelor of Science) – Mechanical Engineering
- (Bachelor of Science) – Mechatronic Engineering
- (Bachelor of Science) – Civil Engineering
- (Bachelor of Science) -Electrical and Electronic Engineering
Kenyatta University (KU)
KU has three accredited engineering degrees and it can be a good choice too:
Here they are:
- (Bachelor of Science) – Mechanical Engineering
- (Bachelor of Science) – Civil Engineering
- (Bachelor of Science) -Electrical & Electronics Engineering
Technical University of Mombasa(TUM)
TUM is one of the two specialized technical universities locally (The other is Technical University of Kenya- former Kenya National Polytechnic) and just like KU, teaches 3 accredited engineering degrees.
These are:
- (Bachelor of Science) – Mechanical Engineering
- (Bachelor of Science) – Civil Engineering
- (Bachelor of Science) -Electrical & Electronics Engineering
Masinde Muliro University of Science & Technology(MMUST)
If you want to take your engineering course at MMUST (for whatever reason), below are their 3 accredited programs (you can only take one of these):
- Eng. (Bachelor of Science) -Civil & Structural Engineering
- (Bachelor of Science) -Mechanical and Industrial Engineering

Technical University of Kenya (TUK)
TUK is undoubtedly Kenya’s premier technical university and offers two fully accredited engineering courses:
They are:
- (Bachelor of Science) – Civil Engineering
- (Bachelor of Science) – Mechanical Engineering
Egerton University
Egerton is best known for agricultural courses so it is not surprising that they are selected by a lot of students who want to become agricultural engineers.
In fact, Egerton is only accredited to teach a Bsc. Degree in Agricultural Engineering
University of Eldoret
The final university that is accredited to offer engineering in Kenya is the UoE (University of Eldoret).
Here you can take these three programs:
- Eng. (Bachelor of Engineering) -Civil & Structural Engineering
- Eng. (Bachelor of Engineering) – Mechanical & Production Engineering
- Eng. (Bachelor of Engineering) – Agricultural & Biosystems Engineering
A word on the best engineering colleges in Kenya
Well, if you did not get the high grades needed to pursue an engineering degree, you can pursue your preferred engineering course at the diploma level.
Now, with regard to the best engineering colleges in Kenya, we recommend most of the public national polytechnics and TVETs (Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions).
Here is a list of top ten polytechnics in Kenya to help you select the right national poly.
But if you’d rather go for training at a TVET college, just log into the KUCCPS students portal here to view a list of Government-sponsored institutions you can choose from (Click on the Institutions tab).
