Bridging courses in JKUAT

Before we get into the bridging courses at JKUAT, keep in mind that you can only bridge one subject at a time, which takes one semester (three months).

Additionally, these courses prepare you for certificate, diploma, and degree programs at JKUAT thereafter.

To bridge any course at JKUAT, you must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • If you are bridging for a degree course, you must have a minimum of D (plain) in the subject to be bridged and a mean grade of C+ in KCSE.
  • If bridging for a diploma course, a minimum of D (plain) in the subject to be bridged and a KCSE mean grade of C- (minus) are required.
  • A minimum of D (plain) in the subject to be bridged and a KCSE mean grade of D+ (plus) if bridging for a certificate course.

So, with that said, JKUAT offers the following bridging courses:

 

1.     Certificate in bridging Mathematics

If you want to pursue a course that requires Mathematics as a minimum requirement, such as a bachelor’s degree in commerce or a related field, but you don’t meet the admission requirements, bridging in mathematics is a great option.

The following topics are usually covered in the bridging course in Mathematics:

  • Algebra and Business Mathematics
  • Geometry
  • Calculus
  • Statistics and Probability
  • Graphs

 

Course duration: 3 months

Mode of study: Full time

Campus offered: Juja (main), Nairobi CBD, Karen Campus, Nakuru CBD, Mombasa CBD, Kisii CBD, Kitale CBD, Kakamega CBD, Eldoret CBD, Kisumu CBD, and Westlands Campus.

 

2.     Certificate in bridging Biology

Minimum requirements:

You should have completed KCSE with a D+ in Biology/Biological Sciences.

Course duration: 3 months

Mode of study: Full time

Campus offered: Juja Main Campus

 

3.     Bridging course in Physics

Course duration: 3 months

Mode of study: Full time

Campus offered: Juja Main Campus, Kisumu CBD Campus

 

4.     Bridging course in Chemistry

Course duration: 3 months

Mode of study: Full time

Campus offered: Juja Main Campus

5.     Bridging Course in English

Course duration: 3 months

Campus offered: Juja Main Campus, Kisii CBD Campus, Nairobi CBD Campus, and Westlands Campus

Mode of study: Full time

 

6.     Bridging Course in Kiswahili

Course duration: 3 months

Mode of study: Full time

Fee structure for bridging courses in JKUAT

Here is how much a bridging course at JKUAT will cost you:

Tuition fee: Kshs.27, 565 per subject

Other charges

  • Application fee of Kshs.500 (non-refundable)
  • Registration fees of Kshs.1,390
  • Student ID card at Kshs.500
  • Examination fees of Kshs.1,655
  • Library fees of Kshs.1,390

Total fee payable per course: Kshs.33,000

Please keep in mind that international students will be charged 20% more.

 

Bridging courses in JKUAT intakes

JKUAT usually have their intakes in January, May, and September.

 

How to apply for a bridging course at JKUAT

Download the application form from here or obtain it from the institution after paying the non-refundable application fee of Kshs.500.

Application details:

  • Duly completed application forms
  • One passport-size photograph
  • Copies of certifications, transcripts, and the application payment receipt should also be included.

After completing your application, make sure to return the forms to JKUAT’s registrar’s office.

All bridging courses at JKUAT take three months to complete and can only be done within two years of taking your KCSE exams.
