What is ACCA Course in Kenya?

ACCA is offered by the globally acclaimed Association of Chartered Certified Accountants(ACCA), one of the topmost professional accounting body that is head-quartered in London, UK.

As I had mentioned, it can be a nice alternative if you don’t find taking the CPA worthwhile (or you already have a CPA and you are looking for a second pro qualification) to go with your BCom degree.

One of the greatest advantages of taking the ACCA is that it is recognized and respected across the planet making it a good choice, if you are targeting international accounting jobs.

How is the course structured?

The ACCA course has three levels:

  • Foundation level- basic qualification
  • Applied Knowledge level.
  • Applied Skills level.

Just to be clear, you take seven exams at the Foundation level, 4 exams at the Applied Knowledge stage, and finally three papers, at the Applied Skills stage.

Besides, you can get the Optional BSc (Bachelor of Science) in Applied Accounting from the Oxford Brookes University.

ACCA course requirements

KCSE students

KCSE – if you did KCSE from 16th August 2010

Mean Grade: C+ (Plus) –at least.

In addition, you need to have attained grades A plain to C (Plain) in 5 separate subjects-  English and Mathematics included.

GCSE students

  • 2 passes at your GCE A-Level / Higher-School Certificate  [you need grades A-E]

How long does the course take?

It usually takes about 2-4 years to complete the ACCA course.

Of course, you may take longer if you’re spacing your exams a lot- remember it all boils down to how many papers you are sitting per exam sitting, and whether you’re passing.

Overall, you will have to complete 13 exams (maximum), depending on your prior work experience and qualifications in addition to the Ethics and Professional Skill s module

 

ACCA course fees in Kenya

The fees for ACCA course depends on where you’re taking the course.

But to give you an idea, the tuition fees ranges from Kshs.19,500.00 to Kshs. 30,000.00 per paper (In some colleges the tuition fees per semester is Kshs.45000).

Please remember that you also have to pay for the final ACCA exam fee, which comes to between Kshs.13500.00 to  Kshs. 15,800.00 per paper.

Other fees are as follows:

  • ACCA Registration Fee: about £79 (one time fee)
  • Annual Subscription Fee: £112(Paid Annually)
