So, does the KMTC Nairobi Campus have its own hostels?
The answer is yes. The college does have hostel facilities on campus, though they are limited.
Meaning that, accommodation is not guaranteed to all students and therefore, the available hostel rooms are allocated on a first come, first served basis after full payment of the semester fees and subsequent registration.
So, as soon as you receive your admission letter, you should hurry up to book a hostel room (but first, you must pay the semester’s school fees in full – that is the only way you will be able to pay for the hostel fee, which is paid separate from the school fees.).
Also, keep in mind that you can only pay the hostel fee after you’ve confirmed that there are hostel rooms available.
So, once you’ve confirmed that a room is available, you’ll be required to pay a hostel fee of Kshs. 5,000 per semester, for a total of Kshs. 10,000 per academic year (two semesters).
Now, with that in mind…
What happens if you don’t secure a space at the KMTC Nairobi Campus hostels?
The good news is that the college usually makes arrangements with private developers to have students who do not have enough space in their housing setup housed near campus at subsidized rates.
So, here are some of the nearby areas where you can find affordable housing:
Eastleigh
Due to the volatile real estate market, most houses in Eastleigh are available for rent, so you will have no trouble finding a house to rent, either a bedsitter or a single room.
It is also inexpensive, as there are many reasonably priced hostels and cheap rental houses. However, security is not always guaranteed.
House rent in Eastleigh starts around Kshs. 4,000 per month.
Nairobi West
Nairobi West is only about a 17-minute walk from the campus via the Mbagathi Way and about a 20-minute walk via the Lower Hill Road.
The house rent is quiet affordable, as low as Kshs. 5,000 per month, and the neighborhood is very safe.
Donholm
Donholm is also not far from the school, and the houses there are reasonably priced.
Furthermore, the security is excellent, making it an excellent place to rent.
Westlands
Westlands is an excellent place to live, particularly in terms of security.
You don’t have to worry about the security of the area because the majority of the apartments are well secured.
The place, however, is quite costly, with rent starting at Kshs. 8,000.
