More about Kenyatta University fee structure for KUCCPS students

Remember that while we have indicated the total fee, parents/sponsors/guardians are only required to pay a small fraction (depending on which category you, the learner, is placed in by Kenya’s HEF government funding system for higher education).

So, to guide you, I’ll provide an example of how much you or your household will contribute (after the government portion is factored in).

Let’s take the bachelor of science in medicine and surgery fee, which is Kshs. 612,000…

In the event that are placed in one of the following bands, the fee will be as follows:

Band one (Previously referred as Vulnerable students)

Government scholarship – 70% of the fee, which is Kshs. 428,400

Loans – 25% of the fee, which is Kshs. 153,000

Parent/Guardian to pay 5% of the fee, which equals to Kshs. 30,600

The government will also allocate you Kshs. 60,000 for upkeep.

Band two (Previously referred as extremely needy students)

Government scholarship – 60% of the fee, which is Kshs. 367,200

Loans – 30% of the fee, which is Kshs. 183,600

Parent/Guardian to pay 10% of the fee, which equals to Kshs. 61,200

In this category, the government will allocate you Kshs. 55,000 for upkeep.

Band three(Previously referred as Needy students)

Government scholarship – 50% of the fee, which is Kshs. 306,000

Loans – 30% of the fee, which is Kshs. 183,600

Parent/Guardian to pay 20% of the fee, which equals to Kshs. 122,400

Again, the government will allocate you Kshs. 50,000 for upkeep.

Band four(Previously referred as Less needy students)

Government scholarship – 40% of the fee, which is Kshs. 244,800

Loans – 30% of the fee, which is Kshs. 183,600

Parent/Guardian to pay 30% of the fee, which equals to Kshs. 183,600

The government will also allocate you Kshs. 45,000 for upkeep.

Band five

Government scholarship – 30% of the fee, which is Kshs. 183,600

Loans – 30% of the fee, which is Kshs. 183,600

Parent/Guardian to pay 40% of the fee, which equals to Kshs. 244,800

The government will additionally allocate you Kshs. 40,000 for upkeep.

Now, the above formula will apply to the cost of all degree programs available, as long as you are placed by KUCCPS and apply for government scholarships and loans on the HEF website.
