Thus, the higher diploma requires only a Diploma in Orthopaedic and Trauma Medicine or an equivalent qualification from any recognized institution.

In addition, you must have two years of work experience after graduating with a diploma in orthopaedics and trauma.

So that’s all it takes to advance to a higher diploma in orthopaedics.

 

Colleges offering higher diploma in orthopaedics in Kenya

Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC)

Among the higher diploma programs offered at KMTC is the higher diploma in orthopaedics.

It is worth noting that at KMTC, this course is known as a higher diploma in orthopaedics and trauma medicine (Paediatrics).

Meaning that you can become an expert in the Paediatric Orthopaedic and Trauma Medicine, after completing the course.

It should also be noted that the higher diploma in orthopaedics and medicine program is only available at the Nairobi KMTC Campus (since this is the only KMTC campus that offers the course).

Another thing to remember is that their intakes typically occur in March and September of each year.

Now, the best part is that the higher diploma program is equivalent to a degree program, so you can easily progress to the master’s level without having to complete a degree first.

Course duration

The higher diploma program takes 18 months, including a 6-month attachment period (which is divided into three semesters).

During this time, you will study topics such as the principles of surgery, orthopaedic pathology, the philosophy of orthopaedic practice, radiology and imaging orthopaedics, and orthopaedic research, among others.

You will also gain valuable practical clinical experience by working with experienced orthopaedic specialists to gain hands-on skills in patient care, during the 6-months attachment.

All applications are submitted online via the institution’s website’s application portal.

So, in order to apply for the course, you must do so through the KMTC applications portal.

Simply log in to the KMTC portal at https://admissions.kmtc.ac.ke/ and apply for the higher diploma in orthopaedics.

Also, ensure that you have the following:

  • Your National ID/Passport or Birth Certificate
  • All your academic certificates/result slips

Additionally, keep in mind that you must pay Kshs. 2022 as an application fee to KMTC via Mpesa Pay Bill 964150 before you can proceed with your application.
