Bachelor of Science in nursing requirements at Egerton University

Minimum entry requirements:

To be eligible for the nursing degree program, you must have a KCSE mean grade of C+ (plus) or its equivalent.

Furthermore, you must have a C+ (plus) in English or Kiswahili, a C+ (plus) in Mathematics or Physics, a C+ (plus) in Biology, and a C+ (plus) in Chemistry.

Alternative qualifications:

  • You must have a diploma in nursing with at least a credit pass from an institution recognized by the university Senate

Or,

  • A higher national diploma in a relevant field with a KCSE mean grade of C (plain) or its equivalent, from an accredited institution

Please keep in mind that in the above two cases, you must have two years of work experience and be registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya.

Also, keep in mind that the course takes four (4) years to complete.

In addition, Egerton University offers an in-service Bachelor of Science in nursing program that takes three (3) years to complete.

To get admission to the program, you must have a minimum KCSE mean grade of C (plain) and the following qualifications:

  • Kenya Registered Nursing/Midwifery/Public Health Diploma (KRN/M/PH), or
  • Kenya Registered Nursing/Midwifery Diploma (KRN/M), or
  • Kenya Registered Nursing Diploma (KRN), or
  • Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing Diploma (KRCHN), or
  • Any other equivalent qualifications assessed and approved by the University Senate and the nursing council of Kenya.

You must also be registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya and have at least two years of post-graduate work experience.

 

Egerton University Bachelor of Science in nursing fees

One academic year of the nursing degree program costs Kshs. 307,340 (tuition fee only).

Remember that there are additional fees that must be paid during admission and throughout the four academic years, so plan accordingly.

Furthermore, since meals and accommodation are not included in the school fees, you must also budget for them separately.

Bachelor of Science in nursing intakes

Egerton University typically has three (3) intakes in an academic year, which are as follows:

  • September/October
  • December/January
  • April/May

It’s worth noting that intake advertisements are usually advertised in the local press (that is, on television, radio stations, social media platforms, and so on) two months before the intake.

It’s also important to mention that the nursing degree program is available at both the main campus in Njoro and the Nakuru Town Campus.

 

How to apply for the course

There are two ways to gain admission to Egerton University: as a government-sponsored student or as a self-sponsored student.

So, to be admitted as a government-sponsored student, you must apply through the KUCCPS portal (when the portal opens for applications).

Otherwise, if you want to apply as a self-sponsored student, you can get the application form online or from the school’s administration office after paying a Kshs. 2,000 application fee.
