Thika technical training institute fee structure -Fees breakdown

As you might be aware, the institute offers both Technical and Business Courses at Certificate and Diploma levels.

Now, the total fee per year is Kshs. 56420, regardless of the course.

More importantly, since Thika technical training institute is a government institution, if you apply through KUCCPS, then you will benefit from the government capitation of Kshs.  30,000.

What I mean by this is that your fee charges per year(remember that a year has 3 terms) will include a Government Subsidy of Kshs.30,000.

Now, let us look at the complete fees breakdown per year including the extra levies you typically have to pay..

Term 1

  • Tuition= 10,480
  • Personal emolument= 6,000
  • Electricity water & conservancy = 2,000
  • Local transport & traveling =1,500
  • Repair maintenance and improvement =800
  • Industrial attachment/medical/insurance =300
  • Activity/clubs and societies = 1,325

Total = Kshs. 22,405

Term 2

  • Tuition = 10,000
  • Personal emolument = 2,760
  • Electricity water & conservancy = 630
  • Local transport & traveling = 923
  • Repair maintenance and improvement = Kshs. 422
  • Industrial attachment/medical/insurance = 1,350
  • Activity/clubs and societies = 1,325

Total = Kshs. 17,410

Other levies payable

Apart from the fee breakdown above, you also have to pay for the following items separately.

  •  Examination = Amount depends on the course and module (on average, the exam fee is between kshs.7,000 to kshs.13000/-)
  • Student smart card = Kshs. 600
  • Student council (paid 200 per month) = Kshs. 600
  • Registration fee = Kshs.1500
  • ICT -infrastructure (paid once on admission) = Kshs. 500

Total amount (excluding the exam fee) = Kshs. 3,200

Other levies payable

Again, there are also other levies payable here apart from the fee as follows:

  • Student smart card = Kshs. 600 (paid once on admission)
  • Student council (paid 200 per month) = Kshs. 600
  • Registration fee = Kshs. 1,500
  • ICT -infrastructure (paid once on admission) = Kshs. 500

Total = Kshs. 3,000

Quick note:

Please note that the total fee we have looked at above includes a Government Subsidy of Kshs.30,000.

Also, the examination fee is applicable to all levels and must be paid in full upon reporting- recall it’s on average between kshs.7,000 to kshs.13000/-.

Additionally, note that the fee above does not include boarding (hostels) neither does it include meals and other personal expenses.

Thika technical training institute is one of the oldest and best public government Technical Training institute.

It is located in Thika Town along General Kago Road next to Thika Level 5 District Hospital and was established under the Ministry of Education, State Department for Vocational and Technical Training.

Also, its operations are governed by many many Acts of Parliament including the KNEC Act, TSC Act, KIE Act, KASNEB Act, and more.

How to Apply

To apply at Thika technical training institute, there are two ways to apply.

To begin with, if you did your KCSE recently, then you can apply through KUCCPS as a government-sponsored student so keep checking if the portal is open and apply.

But to apply as a private student, you can apply directly through the website (click here) or by collecting the application form physically from the college.

How to Download KUCCPS Admission Letter for Thika Technical Training Institute

  1. Visit the Thika technical training institute KUCCPS Admission Letter and Download Login Portal.
  2. Next, log in by entering the Application Details as written in the letter, for example, Your username and password or your KCSE index number.
  3. From there, click submit- first confirm that you have filled out everything correctly before you click submit.
  4. Proceed to download the admission letter

How to apply using email

  1. Download the application form  here.
  2. Next, Pay a non-refundable application fee of Kshs. 500 via KCB Bank (Thika Branch) to Account Number: 1263884806 (Note that the account name should be your Full Name).
  3. Attach all the scanned document needed and send them to this email: application@thikatechnical.ac.ke.

Here are the scanned documents that you need to attach:

  • Duly filled Application Form. (From 1 above)
  • KCB Bank Slip showing application fee
  • KCPE Certificate.
  • KCSE Certificate/Result slip.
  • ID Card/Waiting Card, where applicable.
  • Secondary School Leaving Certificate.
  • Birth Certificate.

Financial Aid offered at Thika technical training institute

Financial Aid is the finance that is given by the government to needy students for fees and upkeep.

This financial upkeep is awarded by the government of Kenya through HELB loans.

If you get admitted to Thika technical training institute, then you are capable to apply for financial help.

Steps to follow:

  1. Start by accessing and filling out the relevant TVET Loan & Bursary Application Form (TLAF) at the HELB website.
  2. When you get the application form, print 2 copies of the duly filled Loan Application Form, and fill it out with the necessary information.
  3. Finally, have it signed plus stamped by the Dean of Students/Financial Aid Officers, and drop the TLAF personally at the HELB students Service Centre or Huduma Centers nearest to you.

Side note: Remember to retain one copy of the duly filled TLAF (Mandatory).

At TTTI different courses have different intakes.

To pursue a course at TTTI, note that intakes are in January, April, May, and September (just make sure to confirm with the institution about the intake for the course you want to apply for).

To apply for a hostel in Thika technical training institute, apply online by visiting the Thika Technical Training Institute Student Portal,  or Log in to the (Thika Technical Training Institute Student Portal).

After logging in, strictly follow the instructions on the portal to apply.

What if you don’t get accommodation in the institution’s hostels?
