Medicine courses in Kenyatta University and their requirements

1.     Bachelor of Medicine and bachelor of Surgery

Minimum requirements:

For KCSE holders:

KCSE mean grade of C+ (Plus) or equivalent

In addition to the overall grade, you must have passed in the following cluster subjects:

Alternative A:

  • Biology B (Plain)
  • Chemistry B (Plain)
  • Physics/Mathematics B (Plain)
  • English/Kiswahili B (Plain)

Alternative B:

  • Biological Sciences B (Plain)
  • Physical Sciences B (Plain)
  • Mathematics B (Plain)
  • English/Kiswahili B (Plain)

 

For diploma holders:

A diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery from a recognized Medical Training Institution and you must also be registered as a Clinical Officer.

Additionally, you must meet the minimum University entry requirements of a KCSE mean grade of C+ (Plus) or Division II at O-Level.

 

For degree holders:

You are also eligible for the course if you have a bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields:

  • Biological Sciences
  • Zoology
  • Botany
  • Biology
  • Microbiology

2.     Bachelor of Science (Medical Laboratory Science)

Minimum entry requirements:

For KCSE holders:

You should have a mean grade of at least C+ (Plus) at KCSE.

In addition, you must also meet one of the following alternative cluster subject requirements:

Alternative A:

  • Biology B (Plain)
  • Chemistry B (Plain)
  • English/Swahili B (plain)
  • Physics/Mathematics C+ (plus)

 

Alternative B:

  • Biological Sciences B+ (Plus)
  • Physical Sciences B+ (Plus)
  • English/Swahili B (plain)
  • Mathematics C+ (plus)

 

For diploma holders:

  • You must have a diploma in Medical Laboratory Science with a KSCE average of C (Plain).
  • You must also be a registered member of the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB) with at least two years of post-registration experience.

3.     Bachelor of Pharmacy

Minimum entry requirements:

For KCSE holders:

Minimum mean grade of C+ (Plus) at KCSE with at least C+ (Plus) in the following cluster subjects:

Alternative A:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Physics/Mathematics
  • English/Kiswahili

Alternative B:

  • Biological Sciences
  • Physical Sciences
  • Mathematics
  • English/Kiswahili

 

For diploma holders:

You can also apply if you have a diploma in one of the following fields:

  • Pharmaceutical Technology
  • Laboratory Technology
  • Clinical Medicine
  • Imaging and Radiograph
  • Nursing, Public Health / Environmental Health
  • Dental Technology or any other acceptable diploma in life sciences

Furthermore, if you are a diploma holder, you must have a KCSE mean grade of C (plain) with at least C (plain) in each of the cluster subjects:

Alternative A:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Physics/Mathematics
  • English/Kiswahili

Alternative B

  • Biological Sciences
  • Physical Sciences
  • Mathematics

For degree holders:

You can also pursue the course if you have a degree in Biological Sciences or Chemistry from Kenyatta University or from a recognized University recognized by the board, as long as you meet the minimum entry requirements.
