Kenya Institute of Highways and Building Technology (KIHBT) entry requirements for all the courses offered in the institution.

The Kenya Institute of Highways and Building Technology famously known as KIHBT is a government institute that has been that has been training students since 1948.

It is a very good institution that aims of to provide technical skills and knowledge to employees of the Ministry of Roads.

Just so you know, KIHBT offers higher Diploma, Diploma, Certificate, craft certificate, and a number of short courses.

Additionally, it is worth noting that it has 3 branches that include; Nairobi Main Campus, Ngong Campus, and Kisii Training Centre

1.      KIHBT Higher Diploma Courses Requirements

Higher Diploma Courses entry requirements:

  • Diploma in Relevant field, Part III certificate

Courses duration: 2 years

Exam body: Technical University of Mombasa and KNEC

  • Higher Diploma in Electrical & Electronics Engineering
  • Higher Diploma in Highway Engineering

2.      KIHBT Diploma Courses entry requirements

Minimum entry requirements:

  • You must be a holder of a KCSE  certificate with a mean grade of C-minus

Course duration: 3 years

Just o know, KIHBT certificate courses are mostly taught at their Ngong Campus.

4.      Craft Certificate Courses in KIHBT Requirements

Minimum entry requirements:

  • D plain in KCSE

Courses duration:2 years

Examination body: KNEC

  • Craft certificate in Automotive Mechanics – Module 1
  • Craft certificate in Electrical Installation – Module 1
  • Craft certificate in Masonry
  • Craft certificate in Roads Construction
  • Craft certificate in Telecommunication – Module 1
  • Craft certificate in Welding & Fabrication

5.      KIHBT Short Courses offered and entry requirements

Minimum entry requirements:

  • Have a KCPE or KCSE certificate depending on the course you would like to take.
  • Interest to learn a new skill
  • Interest to advance a course you had done there before

  • AutoCAD and ArchiCAD- 2 weeks
  • Basic Computer Applications 3 weeks
  • Basic Training Course for Engineers 2 weeks
  • Building Supervisors 6 weeks
  • Defensive Driving 1 week
  • Elementary Driving, for school leavers 4
  • Fire Safety & Disaster Preparedness 1 week
  • First Aid 5 days
  • Fleet Management 1 week
  • Plant Operators 2 months
  • Refresher course for drivers 1 week
  • Road Overseers (6 wks)

KIHBT entry requirements [Application process, accommodation]

Application process

  • To apply for any of the above courses at KIHBT, here is the simple step you need to follow.
  • First, keep in mind that you must apply online, so visit KIHBT
  • Next, on the website, click on the application process icon.
  • By now, it should provide you with an application form.
  • Here, fill in the form as instructed and please note that you must pay application fee worth Kshs. 1000 which is paid through National Bank Account Number 01020000832200.

Side note: Please follow all the instructions in the admission letter.

Also, keep in mind that you must attach the following details during your application.

These documents include:

  1. Copies of academic certificates
  2. Copies Of leaving certificates
  3. Photocopy of National Identification Card
  4. Banking Slip Number

Quick note: All the above listed documents should be Submitted If the Application is successful on Reporting

Accommodation

KIHBT offers accommodation for its students to those interested.

Surprisingly, this institution caters for both meals and accommodation at Kshs. 17,000.
