If you’ve been wondering about the cost of bridging courses in Kenya, then you’ve come to the right place. Keep reading…
Are you looking to bridge a course but unsure of how much it will cost?
In this article, we will look at the cost of bridging courses in Kenya.
But first, let’s define what a bridging course is.
A bridging course is a short course that students take in order to retake their failed KCSE subjects.
Basically, bridging courses give you a second chance to re-sit their lower subject grades in the KCSE examination in order to gain entry requirements into higher learning institutions for their desired course.
On average, a bridging course usually takes three to six months to complete, and students can study full-time, part-time, or on weekends.
The following are the most popular bridging courses in Kenya:
- Certificate in bridging Biology
- Certificate in bridging Chemistry
- Certificate in bridging Mathematics
- Certificate in bridging Physics
- Certificate in bridging English
With that in mind, let us now move on to how much it will cost you to bridge a course in Kenya.
Cost of bridging courses in Kenya
Please keep in mind that the cost of bridging courses in Kenya varies per to the institution.
Generally, the cost ranges between 12,000 and 40,000 per subject taken. The cost can be higher or lower depending on the institution and the course being offered.
For example, at Chuka University, bridging a single subject will cost you Kshs. 15,000 whereas at Multimedia it will cost you Kshs. 29,000.
Another example is that in some institutions, bridging a single subject is more expensive than bridging two or more subjects (like in a certain institution I called, you pay Kshs. 12,000 for a single subject but Kshs. 18,000 for bridging two subjects).
Also, these additional charges may apply:
- Application fee of at least Kshs. 500 (this also ranges per institution).
- KNEC exam booking fee of Kshs. 3,100
Side note: Depending on the institution, there may be additional levies, so be financially prepared.

Wrap up on the cost of bridging courses in Kenya
So, as previously stated, the cost of bridging courses in Kenya is determined by the institution where you choose to enroll.
Given that the cost of bridging varies, the best thing to do is to identify the institution with which you want to bridge and then inquire about the fee.
But hopefully you’ll find this article useful as it gives you a general idea of how much you should expect to pay to bridge a single subject.
PS: Perhaps the best option is repeating the subject(s) you scored poorly in (because you want to do a particular course) since your upgrade KCSE certificate (assuming you’ll improve your grades) will be recognized widely unlike institution-based bridging courses whose recognition won’t extend beyond the gates of that institution! In other words, its best to repeat the subjects you had failed by retaking KCSE (Its just a few months after all so talk to your parents/guardians otherwise you’ll end up with a bridging certificate that is not widely recognized!)
