The KMTC Butula Campus is in Bumala ‘B’ which’s part of the Marachi East Ward of Butula Sub-County in Busia County. It is behind the Bumala ‘B’ Health Centre.

KMTC Butula specializes in highly practical certificate programs designed to plug critical gaps in Kenya’s healthcare system. All regular certificate programs take 2 years to complete:

• Certificate in Orthopaedic & Trauma Medicine (2 Years)
• Certificate in Health Care Assistant (2 Years)
• Certificate in Nutrition and Dietetics (2 Years)

KCSE Grades and Subject Qualifications Needed

You don’t need grades to start studying medicine. The campus offers ways to get into healthcare with these basic requirements:

For Orthopaedic & Trauma Medicine or Nutrition & Dietetics you need at least

• A minimum KCSE Mean Grade of D+, D+ in English or Kiswahili, D in Biology, and D in any other supporting science or mathematics subject.

For Health Care Assistant you need least

• A minimum KCSE Mean Grade of C- (or D+ depending on the specific module intake cycle). You must have specific passes in English or Kiswahili and Biology.

Fee Structure and Financial Aid: Can You Get HELB?

Fees:

There are two fee categories named:

1. Regular
2. Foreign (as detailed in the current fees structure)

Fees structure is subject to changes from time to time, so students are advised to pay fees on annual basis to avoid interruption of training upon dismissal.

Also note that fees are not refundable.
 
 NB: Students are advised to make financial arrangements to cover expenses related to Practical attachment; Research etc. details are available at the faculty upon reporting.

HELB Funding:

Yes! KMTC students are fully eligible to apply for government funding through the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB). Even better, you can apply for the specialized HELB Afya Elimu Fund, which is explicitly set aside to support needy students pursuing medical courses.

Local Scholarships:

 Needy students at the KMTC Butula campus often benefit from regional bursaries and constituency development funds (NG-CDF) supported by local Busia leadership.

Hands-on Clinical Training and Attachment Facilities

But you may be lucky if you apply very fast….don’t worry if you are told the capacity is filled up…you can just pay and wait to be called in during the next intake..

KUCCPS KMTC Placement Revision (How to revise your KUCCPS KMTC course)

As I have told you above, KUCCPS portal has been opened for KMTC revision of choices..And this is specifically for anyone who had applied for KUCCPS KMTC courses but was unlucky(you did not get KMTC placement by KUCCPS).

In fact, most of the KUCCPS KMTC applicants have already been notified(via SMS message) to the telephone numbers they gave KUCCPS in the previous application.

Here is how to do the revision:

Simply log into your KUCCPS portal account (link is students.kuccps.net) then go through the KMTC courses shown on the portal and  choose a different KMTC course from that list.

When is the KUCCPS revision of KMTC courses deadline?

The revision period starts from 12th September and will close at midnight on 16-th September, 2023.

What next?

Remember that once the KUCCPS KMTC placement results are released, you will get an SMS notifying you if you were successful this time.

After that, you only have to wait a little before the KMTC you selected gets in touch with you via the contact information you gave (phone number, email) advising you how to get the KUCCPS KMTC admission letters

No! The courses you can revise to are only those with unfilled capacity and in specific KMTC campuses.

Otherwise, you will see this message “THIS PROGRAM DOESN’T EXIST OR IS NOT ON OFFER”

In fact, you may not see prime courses such as pharmacy on offer and only less popular courses such as health records & IT and community health are open.

Again- and as mentioned above,  not all KMTC colleges are recruiting during the revision so keep that in mind…see their earlier list for available campuses

Suppose the course I desire to take is not available in this revision therefore I fail to apply?

No problem….

Just wait for the next KUCCPS KMTC Intake…your course (perhaps you want to apply for in-demand KUCCPS KMTC diploma courses such as nursing or dentistry) could be on offer then.

What if I failed to apply during the recent KMTC KUCCPs application. Can I do a fresh KMTC application now through KUCCPS?

When it comes to kuccps admission letters, the letters have to be released by KUCCPS itself…and then colleges and Universities are to start sending them out as soon as the final KUCCPS placement results are out. 

In other words, the institutions are supposed to send you the letter via the contact email you gave on the portal and also alert you via SMS anytime from now.

Also, most of the Colleges and Universities also publish the letters on their websites so you can be checking if they are ready by going to the website of the college/university you have been assigned to.

One way of expediting the process, especially if there are delays is by contacting the college/university directly (you can Google for their telephone numbers and the reach out to them…tell whoever receives your call that you’re enquiring about your admission letter)

The letter will have all the important joining instructions – what you need (from learning materials and tools to documents to report with), joining dates, directions to the institution, accommodation/hostel details, and more.

Most importantly, you will be instructed how to apply for government funding (and HELB) under the new government funding model for higher education.

Note that you’ll need to have your admission letter (with your admission number) when applying for financing through the official Government funding website https://www.hef.co.ke/ 

For HELB, you’re still required to go to helb.co.ke – please speak to your institution for help where necessary.

How to check kuccps placement 2025 via sms

Send your KCSE index number -start with your K.C.S.E. year to sms number 20842.

Note that you should not put a space or a slash(/) anywhere.

Here is an example of how to compose the SMS:

2022 is the year and 1234567812, the index.

Once you type like that, send that SMS to 20842

Make sure you have enough airtime (I saw as if it is charging 25/-)

How much does KUCCPS pay for diploma students (how much does KUCCPS pay for college students)

To be precise, KUCCPS no longer pays a flat amount- it used to pay a total of Kshs. 30,000 to all its diploma students which is paid directly to the institution.

That is because the government has since changed its funding model to a need-based system..

What that means is simple:

The government can pay your diploma course fee 100% (via scholarships and HELB loans) or they can pay just a small fraction- it all comes down to how the new HEF (Higher Education Financing) portal categorizes you..

and there are a couple of categories:

• Extremely needy
• Vulnerable
• Needy
• Less needy

Simply, you cannot be sure how much you will get until you have applied for funding through the website (after getting placed by KUCCPS)

Of course, the remainder (balance) will have to be paid by your sponsor/parents.

The good thing is that if you’re classified as extremely needy or vulnerable, you will pay virtually nothing to the colleges you have been called to.

Remember the fees for Diploma courses has been standardized to Kshs. 67189 per year regardless of the course you’re taking- and you need to have spare cash to pay for exams and your accommodation.

How much does KUCCPS pay for certificate students?

And what if you want to start from the certificate level and then upgrade to the diploma level, how much do KUCCPS pay for a certificate course?

Well, again it is not based on your level of need for certificate courses…so apply and see if you will be lucky to get 100% financing or you’ll just get partial funding.

Side note: The distribution will be just the same as that of the diploma courses.

Remember the fees for certificate courses has also been standardized to Kshs. 67189 per year regardless of the certificate course you’re taking- and you need to budget for exams and accommodation.

So, is KUCCPS portal open?

Well, below is how to check:

Can I apply KUCCPS now? /is KUCCPS portal open?

No! You cannot apply KUCCPS always…..

But why?

This is because as we said early before, you can only apply KUCCPS when the portal is open and it is not open right now.

Bearing that in mind, it is worth noting that the portal is usually open around the months of March to July.

So please keep checking on the KUCCPS portal or their official social media handles (check on KUCCPS Facebook page Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service)

And just so you know, when the portal is open, it usually has about 2 weeks deadline and then it is closed again so keep a close eye on it once opened.

Having said that, it is important to note that there are a few things KUCCPS needs to consider before opening the portal including analyzing the capacity declared by various institutions and once that is sorted out, then you will be notified when the application window is opened via the various KUCCPS social handles to apply (You can also check KUCCPS Twitter Handle @KUCCPS_Official).

Things KUCCPS takes into consideration before opening the application window

• Receiving results from KNEC (which was done in the weeks following KCSE results release
• Getting all the Programmes from the universities and TVETS institutions
• Process them then sending them to the commission of higher education for validation (to ensure the programs are of quality and have been accredited to be offered by the respective colleges)
• After that, KUCCPS upload all this to their system
• Hold discussions with ministry officials to look at the available funding and the number of students who have qualified to join colleges and universities
• From there a decision is made on how many students KUCCPS has to place (sometimes this stage takes more time) depending on the prevailing circumstances in the education sector (for example, a policy change could be in the process of being implemented)

Steps how KUCCPS work

1st placement

This is usually done in secondary school where the student selects a course, they would like to pursue from KUCCPS portal by their teachers.

Quick note: This application is done even before the candidates sit for their KCSE examination.

Here, the Head teachers are required to submit applications indicating the institutions they wish to join and the course they would like to pursue at KUCCPS.

1^st revision

This starts after students have received their KCSE exam results.

Just so you know, revision is usually open to students for the following courses; degree, diploma, craft, and artisan courses.

Additionally, students who both selected their courses in secondary school and those who did not are given a chance to revise their courses or choose courses afresh.

Side note: Please note that this revision process takes place through KUCCPS students’ portal when open.

Release of first placement results

Now, after the first revision courses is fully complete, KUCCPS will release the application information.

In addition, it also releases the list of all the students who have not been placed in any college or university.

On the other hand, here is where those who have been placed in various universities will see a notice though you will not be in a position to know the university or the course you have been placed in.

Second & third revisions of courses

This step is usually for the students who have not been placed after the first placement and those who did not apply at all through KUCCPS.

Here, they are given a chance to do the second and the third revision of the courses (note this is the final chance)

Important tip: If you have already been placed, it is worth noting that you cannot do the second and third the revision of courses.

Release of the second and final placement results

After the 2^nd and 3^rd revision of courses is complete, KUCCPS will process the student(applicant) details and then release the placement results.

At this point, the results will contain the University and Course that each applicant has been placed.

Quick note: If the course you selected did not go through (was not successful) then you will have no choice because KUCCPS will place you in any institution and any course as well.

Again, if you did not apply for any course at all during the school application, first revision, second revision, and third revision of courses, then you will have to apply directly to the institution as a self-sponsored student since you can’t be placed by KUCCPS.

Inter-institution transfer

All the processes are complete by now (both revision and placement), and applicants are given a chance to apply for inter-institution transfer (changing of institutions to your preferred college/university) using the KUCCPS portal.

Lastly, after the inter- institution transfer process is through, the institution you have been placed by KUCCPS is will send you an admission letter.

But what are KUCCPS qualifications for different courses?

Different levels have different general qualifications as we have listed below to better guide you.

KUCCPS Qualification

• Degree courses C+ (plus)
• Diploma courses C-(minus)
• Craft courses D (plain)
• Artisan courses E or KCSE certificate

It should be noted that some of the courses require cluster Subjects qualifications so confirm from KUCCPS portal.

KUCCPS application guide step by step

1. Visit the KUCCPS website on kuccps.net (when the portal is open)
2. To “log in” Enter your KCSE Index Number, Year of KCSE, and your password (KCPE Index or Birth Certificate Number).
3. Next, revise or just make a new course application as appropriate by simply clicking on the Application/revision tab on KUCCPS website.
4. Finally, confirm whether you have qualified for the course, you have selected.
5. If yes, finish the process by submitting.

Just so you know, Nairobi technical training institute is a public tertiary institution under the Ministry of Education, State Department of Vocational and Technical Training.

Having said that, below is the fee structure for courses offered in the institution.

Nairobi technical training institute fee structure –Complete Nairobi technical training institute fees structure

As we have said above, this is a public technical training institution meaning it receives full support from the Government through grants, training equipment, and personnel.

That being so, the fee structure for all the courses offered in the institution is the same regardless of the course.

To be precise the total fee per academic year is Kshs. 56420.

However, because Nairobi technical training institute is a government institution, when you apply through KUCCPS you benefit from a government subsidy of Kshs. 30,000 per year.

Therefore, instead of paying a total of Kshs. 56420, you will only pay Kshs.26,420.

But please note that if you are a self-sponsored student, you pay the fee in full (Kshs. 56420)

Having known the fee payable per year, now let me guide you on how the fee is distributed per term below.

1^st term

• School equipment and Stores = Kshs. 7,500
• Electricity, water & conservancy (EWC)= Kshs. 2,200
• Personal emoluments (PE)= Kshs. 7,000
• Local transport & travel= Kshs. 3,260
• Repair, maintenance & improvement= Kshs. 1,500

2^nd term

4. From there, revise or make a new chose application for the course you want to pursue.
5. Finally, finish up the process by submitting your application form.

Keep in mind that, you will have to pay 1,500 KUCCPS application fee.
