Project management has evolved significantly with the advent of technology, leading to the development of numerous modern tools and software platforms that streamline project workflows, enhance collaboration, and improve overall efficiency.

Modern project management tools are designed to streamline various aspects of project management, from planning and scheduling to collaboration and reporting.

These tools automate repetitive tasks, provide real-time visibility into project progress, and offer features for communication and collaboration.

As a result, project professionals can work more efficiently, saving time and effort in managing projects.

Modern project management tools

Modern project management tools offer robust reporting and analytics capabilities, allowing project professionals to gain insights into project performance, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.

By analyzing key metrics such as task completion rates, resource utilization, and project milestones, project professionals can optimize project workflows, allocate resources effectively, and mitigate risks proactively.

Using modern project management tools allows project professionals to stay current with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies.

By mastering these tools, project professionals can enhance their skills, improve their project management capabilities, and position themselves as valuable assets to their organizations. Additionally, many project management tools offer training resources, certifications, and communities where project professionals can network, learn from peers, and share knowledge and experiences.

Why Project professionals need to embrace modern tools in their projects?

Project Organization

Consider a software development project with multiple teams working on different modules. Without a project management tool, tasks, deadlines, and dependencies might be scattered across various spreadsheets, emails, and documents.

However, with a proper tool all tasks, deadlines, and dependencies can be organized in one place, providing clarity and ensuring that everyone knows what needs to be done.

Project Collaboration

Imagine a marketing campaign project where team members are spread across different locations.

Without a project management tool, collaboration could be challenging, with delays in communication and difficulty in sharing files.

Tools like Microsoft Teams facilitate real-time communication and collaboration, allowing team members to discuss ideas, share updates, and work together seamlessly regardless of their location.

Project Communication

In a construction project, effective communication between contractors, architects, and clients is crucial to ensure that the project stays on track and meets the desired specifications. Project management tools provide communication channels where stakeholders can share progress updates, address issues, and make decisions collaboratively, leading to smoother project execution.

Project Resource Management

Consider a manufacturing project where raw materials, equipment, and labor need to be managed efficiently to meet production targets.

Project management tools help in allocating resources based on availability and skillset, tracking resource utilization, and identifying any bottlenecks or overloads in real-time.

Tracking Progress in a Project

In a marketing project, tracking progress is essential to ensure that campaigns are executed according to plan and deadlines are met.

Project management tools provide dashboards and reporting features that allow project managers to track the status of tasks, monitor key milestones, and identify any delays or deviations from the original plan.

Recap

In summary, modern project management tools empower project professionals to work more efficiently, collaborate effectively, make data-driven decisions, adapt to changing project requirements, and continue their professional development.

By leveraging these tools super effectively, project professionals can enhance their effectiveness, drive project success, and deliver value to their organizations.

KMTC degree courses: Following the successful completion of the assessment of KMTC courses and qualifications by KNQA(Kenya National Qualifications Authority), KMTC higher diploma courses have earned the degree endorsement().

In other words, if you take a Higher National Diploma course at KMTC, your qualification is henceforth going to be classified as level 7 of the Kenya National Qualifications Authority qualifications framework.

Which means that it is comparable to a degree (bachelor’s) or other qualifications rated at Level 7 (Think KASNEB CPA III, CPS III, or even a Masters Craft Person I).

Indeed, KMTC has already received the full certificate of accreditation and registration from (KNQA) (QAI).

KMTC degree courses: KMTC Higher Diplomas now equal to University Degree

So, what does that mean?

It means that you don’t need to pass through a bachelor’s if you want to pursue a Masters Degree!

In short, you can apply on Kenya National Qualifications Authority qualifications portal to have your Higher National Qualification evaluated – and it will be standardized/equated to a Bachelors’ Degree, which implies that you can apply with it for a Masters Degree(once KNQA gives you the letter to that effect)

The only downside is that you have to part with Kshs. 5,000.00 to have your qualification aligned (That is the standard fee for Alignment of all qualifications applied for by Kenyan citizens)

By the way this is how to pay:

KNQA M-PESA Pay bill number: 504080

Account Number: Enter your Name

Where to apply for alignment of your KMTC Higher Diploma course

You do that via KNQA portal …simply head over to QAV Portal through qa.knqa.go.ke;

What you need to have before you head to the portal for application purposes

Copies of all your supporting certificates and transcripts(scanned clear certified copies) for the higher diploma- ask KMTC to certify for you or you can pay an Advocate/Commissioner for oaths to do that for you.

Copy of your National Identity Card/Passports – the scans should show your photograph clearly….this needs to be certified by an Advocate(lawyer)/Commissioner for oaths

In case you have since changed name (from what is on the certificate), swear an affidavit at an Advocate(lawyer)/Commissioner for oaths office, scan it and attach it too.

So yeah, there are no pure KMTC degree courses but you now have a way of making your Higher Diploma a Degree, if you’d like to pursue a Masters course (as you try to climb to the upper echelons of your career).

Below is How to Apply for a Government Scholarship Under the New Model for University Funding (Including a Video)

For a sizable portion of students enrolling in universities and Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) institutions, the new finance model for higher education- based on Means Testing Instrument [MTI]- continues to be a perplexing proposition.

According to the plan unveiled by President William Ruto in May 2023, the government wants to allocate financing for higher education directly to specific students based on carefully chosen standards.

The Higher Education Financing (HEF) Portal, via which individual applications for scholarships, loans, and bursaries would be made shortly after obtaining acceptance letters, was opened by former Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu in 2023.

However, concerns have been raised about how you can apply for the government scholarship and who will receive it, how much you actually get, and more.

So Below is How to Apply for a Government Scholarship this year Under the New Model for University Funding and answers to some of the above nagging questions

How to Apply for a Government Scholarship Under the New Model for University Funding

First, to be eligible for the scholarship, you must be a Kenyan citizen and a KCSE exam candidate in 2022- that is according to the University Fund Kenya.

Additionally, you must have been assigned by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) to study for an undergraduate degree, a diploma, a craft certificate, or an artisan course at one of Kenya’s approved public universities or TVET institutions.

Now, once you have met these requirements, just follow these steps:

By the way before you proceed, make sure you have the following:

A copy of the sponsorship letter if you were sponsored by someone in secondary school

A valid email address

A valid phone number -registered in your name(not parent’s/guardian’s)

Your KCPE and KCSE index numbers

Your TVET college or university admission letter

Your parent’s/guardian’s registered telephone numbers

Your national ID number(if you have- choose No if you don’t have)

Death certificate of your parents, if they are deceased- copy of death certificate if deceased one, if only one has passed on.

A passport photo

Your birth certificate.

Your KUCCPS course Code (see it from KUCCPS Website)

Besides, if you’ll be applying for HELB loans, you need to have the national ID numbers as well as the registered telephone numbers for 2 guarantors(Can even be your parents).

TIME OUT

Hey there!
Now proceed reading the steps to used under new funding model below..

Step 1: HEF portal registration online

Visit https://www.hef.co.ke/ to submit you application. You can also type www hef co ke login in your browser.

Step 2:

Once you are passed the new funding model portal login, you need to register first…

Start by clicking apply now then click Register and then fill in all the information you’re asked for in the displayed online HEF portal registration form

Step 3:

Once you do that- you might be required to login afresh- complete your profile and upload any necessary papers as asked by the system.

Next, check the option to apply for a loan or scholarship according to your financial needs, and then submit their application (remember that students attending private universities can only apply for a loan).

Step 4:

You now wait 30 days for the system to finish verification and assessment of your need.

It will then send you an SMS notification confirming how much you’ll get.

Important information regarding the HEF website and the new university funding portal

It’s important to note that although students attending private colleges are not entitled to the government’s scholarship program, you can still apply for loans through the HELB (if you’ll be attending a private institution).

The new financing model will not have an impact on current students, who will continue to receive funds according to the old funding scheme.

The amount of financial aid each student receives is determined by the household’s monthly income, and it has been divided into four categories: vulnerable, severely needy, needy, and less needy (read about it in the Government Sponsored Students Fee Structure)

Call HEF on 0746737935 if you encounter problems- and do not worry if you are told “HEF portal not working” when you try to open it- just keep trying..it is receiving a lot of traffic sometimes leading to an overload that clears every now and then so just keep retrying until it opens.

Is HEF portal open?

Go here to check

KUCCPS has released its annual report on the most competitive degree courses in Kenya.

These are the courses that have the highest number of applications on the KUCCPS (Kenya Universities & Colleges Central Placement Service) portal and are considered to be hotcake courses in Kenya.

Below you will find the latest list of the most competitive degree courses in Kenya.

Most competitive degree courses in Kenya according to the KUCCPS Data

The most sought after courses in Kenya’s institutions of higher learning are:

1. Medicine and surgery

Thousands of qualified students harbor dreams of working in Kenya’s burgeoning health sector and have been seeking admission in medicine-related courses never mind that it’s one of the highly demanding courses in Kenya.

2. Architectural studies

Students who have freshly finished form four have also inundated Universities offering architectural programs such as Bachelor of Architecture/Architectural Studies(B.Arch) in Kenya with applications.

These include the University of Nairobi and KU (Kenyatta University).

3. Aeronautical engineering

Also appearing among the most competitive degree courses in Kenya is aeronautical engineering according to the report.

Notably, aeronautical engineering in Kenya is only offered by a few selected institutions with many students opting to pursue studies at the Technical University of Kenya (TUKENYA) and Moi University.

Competition for the few chances in the involved institutions is therefore extremely high.

TIME OUT

Now proceed reading below..

4. Civil engineering

Civil engineering is widely believed to be among the top marketable degree courses in Kenya and has accordingly been a target for thousands of students seeking to join Kenyan universities.

JKUAT, Nairobi University, and the Technical University are some of the best colleges offering this course.

5. Clinical medicine

Programmes like Bsc. (Bachelor of Science) in Clinical Medicine also made it into the report of the most competitive degree courses in Kenya.

The course is available in both public and private institutions like MKU, Egerton University, and Methodist University.

6. Nursing

In Kenya, nursing programmes are tremendously popular with thousands upon thousands of students seeking entry in accredited institutions to kick-start their careers.

The most popular Universities with students seeking to study nursing are Nairobi , Egerton, Mount Kenya University, Kenyatta University, Dedan Kimathi University, and Methodist University.

At the Diploma level, the most preferred nursing school seems to be KMTC.

7. Law

Closely following Nursing in terms of the applications received is the Bachelor of Laws(LLB) course.

As a result, universities offering law in Kenya like Catholic and Daystar have been attracting a multitude of interested students.

8. Computer science and Information Technology

Kenya is a leader in ICT innovations in Africa and this seems to have made computer science and ICT courses to be well-liked by form 4 leavers.

The two courses are widely available. Indeed, most of the universities offer the programme.

Problem is, most of the applicants want to take the course at the older universities such as JKUAT and Maseno University ignoring the newer institutions.

Other hotcake courses in Kenya

Other courses attracting an avalanche of applications according to KUCCPS are:

Aerospace engineering– students applying for aeronautical engineering also select aerospace engineering as their second option.

Electrical and electronics engineering– The data shows that courses such as BSc. in Electrical & Electronic Engineering(JKUAT and the Technical University) fascinate thousands of KCSE top performers.

Quantity surveying- This is offered at the Technical University of Kenya, JKUAT, and a couple of other institutions of higher learning in Kenya.

Electronics and computer engineering.

Electrical and telecommunication engineering.

Community health.

It’s worth noting that a majority of these degrees appear in the list of top 30 most marketable courses in Kenya.

Final words

In total, KUCCPS has more than 529 degrees available for application by students with the older universities admitting a lion’s share of the scholars, having declared a larger capacity.

These include Moi, Nairobi, Egerton, JKUAT, KU, and Maseno.

Other popular destinations for learners according to KUCCPS are Kisii University, Masinde Muliro, and Kirinyaga University.

On the other hand, leading private universities in terms of admissions are MKU, Catholic, Kabarak, KCA University, and Methodist.

They too offer a good number of the most competitive degree courses in Kenya.

Zetech, Daystar, and St Pauls have lower capacities and don’t admit as many government sponsored learners as the rest.

For most students, the amount of fees charged by a university can influence their decision to join or look for a more affordable alternative.

Below you will find a list of the most expensive universities in Kenya to help you make a more educated decision.

Let’s dive right in.

Most expensive universities in Kenya

The list covers the cost of both the most expensive public universities in Kenya as well as private universities in Kenya.

Strathmore University

The quality education here is top notch but you have to dig deeper in your pocket to finance your study at Strathmore.

The University excels in science and arts disciplines.

In addition, Strathmore is considered one of the best universities in Kenya to pursue business courses.

Fees for some undergraduate programs go as high as shs.250000/- per year with select masters courses costing even more.

Kabarak University

Another institution to frequently feature in the list of the most expensive universities in Kenya is the privately-owned Kabarak University.

Self-sponsored students need to cough up as much as shs.82300 per semester in programs such as Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Church Music & Theology and BCom. (Bachelor of Commerce).

Law and pharmacy are even pricier and you will incur a cost of shs. 117300 and shs. 147300 respectively per year.

Kabarak university fees structure for government sponsored students is however not that much- you pay about just shs. 223,500 over the 4 years.

USIU (United States International University-Africa)

You can trust the professors at USIU-Africa to mould you into a respectable professional but you’ll again need to be well-prepared prepared financially.

Fees averages over shs.100000 in most programmes with some degrees-pharmacy included- costing nearly shs.200000 per semester (if you include the myriad administrative fees).

University of Nairobi

It’s not as expensive as some of the aforementioned private universities but the University of Nairobi has some of the highest university fees in Kenya among public institutions.

For example, some bachelor courses at UoN’s school of engineering will set you back about shs.180000 per year while programmes like bachelor of architecture costs about shs.300000 annually.

Even diploma courses can be quite expensive- some will leave you shs.130000 poorer.

But you’ll get good value for money as education quality is top class here.

In fact, the University of Nairobi often occupies the number 1 position in the ranking of Kenyan public universities by organizations such as webometrics.

Daystar University

Daystar is, of course, one of the most developed universities in Kenya and the fee is unsurprisingly sky-high.

Nursing fees is, for example, fixed at kshs.80715.00 per semester with hostels costing kshs.45000 per semester (full board)

Overall, the cost of most of the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes is anywhere between shs.100000 to shs.130000 per semester.

Wrapping it up

Other universities you can include in this list of the most expensive universities in Kenya are CUEA (Catholic University of East Africa) – some programs have eye-catching fees- and Aga Khan University (for medical courses).

All in all, public universities are the cheapest and the best bets if you’re searching for a university offering reasonably-priced education.
