Certificate in nursing in MKU [What you need to know before you even try to see if you have met MKU certificate in nursing requirements]

Unfortunately, MKU does not offer a nursing certificate. It does, however, provide a certificate in community health, which is quite different from the nursing course in terms of job opportunities.

However, you can still pursue a nursing certificate at other institutions, particularly KMTC, the best medical school in the country.

So, let’s take a look at the nursing certificate program at KMTC.

Certificate in nursing in KMTC requirements

To enroll for a certificate in nursing at KMTC, you must meet the following minimum entry requirements:

A KCSE mean grade of C- (minus) or its equivalent

In addition, you must also meet the following cluster subjects’ requirements:

English/Kiswahili C- (minus)

Biology/Biological Sciences C- (minus)

D+ (plus) in either Chemistry, Mathematics, or Physics/Physical Sciences

KMTC campuses offering certificate in nursing

The following KMTC campuses offer certificate in nursing:

Bomet KMTC Campus

Kitui KMTC Campus

Kilifi KMTC Campus

How long is a certificate in nursing?

The certificate in nursing takes two and a half years to complete, as opposed to other KMTC certificate courses, which take two years.

TIME OUT

Hey there! Please keep in mind that the above fee includes the following:

Tuition fee

Registration fee

Activity fee

Examination fee

Library and ICT services fees

Research and development fees

Maintenance levy

Transport levy

Student ID card

However, the fee does not include accommodation, food, or attachment costs, so you must budget for these separately.

To clarify, as a regular student, you are a government-sponsored student who applied through the KUCCPS student portal and was placed by KUCCPS.

SIDE NOTE: KUCCPS always announces the opening of their portal via their social media platforms or the media. Similarly, KMTC announces their next intake via the media and social media platforms. Also, keep an eye on their website for updates.

How to apply for certificate in nursing in KMTC

All applications are submitted online, with a Kshs.2,022 application fee payable via Mpesa Pay Bill No. 964150.

Remember that in order to be a government-sponsored student at KMTC, you must apply through the KUCCPS portal (once it is open).

Alternatively, you can apply as a self-sponsored student through their portal. It should be noted that their intakes are typically in March and September, so make sure their portal is open by then.

Simply go to the KMTC website and follow all of the prompts to finish your application.

Certificate in nursing in MKU – other colleges offering certificate in nursing in Kenya

NEP college of health sciences Garissa

Maseno Nursing School

AIC Kijabe School of Nursing

Consolata Hospital Wamba, Samburu

Kijabe Medical School

Certificate in nursing in MKU – wrap up

In conclusion, while MKU does not offer a certificate in nursing, you can study it at other colleges in Kenya that do offer the course.

Despite the fact that other institutions offer the course, I would strongly recommend pursuing it at KMTC because it is fully licensed and the best medical school in the country.

That being so, if you need to contact a specific KMTC campus offering the certificate in nursing for any questions or additional information, here is their contact information.

Finally, it should be noted that after earning a certificate in nursing, you must practice for at least two years before advancing to the diploma level.

And this implies that, to practice as a nurse in Kenya, you must first register with the National Nursing Council.
