Diploma courses and fees at Kenyatta University. One of the best universities in

Kenya is obviously Kenyatta University. The best thing is they have some

great diploma courses in Kenya for those who got a C-

In this post, I’m going to be sharing with you the rest of the diploma courses that

you can do at Kenyatta University if you got a C-.

We are doing this because many of you have been asking us to do a

post on that so that you can be able to make the right choices.

My name is CPA John Getahi, a part-time lecturer in one of the universities in Kenya.

I hold two degrees, one in business management and the other one in IT.

I also hold a postgraduate diploma in education.

During my spare time, I like mentoring young people regarding career choices.

Let us get into it. So these are the C minus courses that you

can do at Kenyatta University. Bear in mind that these are diploma courses.

The first one, if you want to become a tutor at the early childhood level,

that is, pre-primary, as they call it today, you can do

Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education.

This is in the school of education and lifelong learning.

You need to have a C minus. There are no cluster requirements.

Of course, you can also be admitted to this program if you have:

Previously done a certificate in ECE, that is

Early Childhood Care and Education

You have a TSC registration.

Diploma in accountancy.

This is at KU TVET School under their school of business, Economics, and

Tourism.

You need to have a C minus at KCSE, or you can also be accepted

if you had a

D plus at KCSE

But you have

A certificate in a relevant area of study.

For example, a certificate in accountancy from KU or any other accredited institution.

So a C minus or a D+, plus a certificate in areas like accountancy, business administration,

business management, etc., from an accredited institution.

Diploma in Business Management

This is again under their TVET school in the school of

Business Economics and Tourism.

C minus or just like the way we saw for the diploma in accountancy

a D+, plus a certificate in a relevant area, including a

background in business management

For example, a certificate in business administration, etc.

from KU or any other recognized institution.

This is one of my favorite.

Diploma in Chinese language and culture

I think Chinese is slowly becoming one of the most in-demand

languages in the world. Foreign languages also in Kenya.

It’s a good course to take. They are offering it under their

Law Arts and Social Sciences School, under their Chinese institute.

It’s a good program. You need to have a

C minus at KCSE.

And you also need to have a

C minus in English or Kiswahili.

You can also be accepted if you had a C plain at KCSE, but you have

a certificate in Chinese language and culture

Awarded at KU or level two Chinese language proficiency test, as

administered by KU.

I think if, for example, you want to work in China, you want to work with Chinese

here in Kenya, I think having these qualifications is a good thing.

Diploma in Communication and Media

If you like journalism, I think it’s better to do a General Diploma in Communication

media.

C minus at KCSE

And here are cluster requirements

C plain at least in English or Kiswahili

C minus or its equivalent in one of these subjects

Geography, History and Government.

If not so, a B+ at KCSE or its equivalent, but then have

a certificate in communication and media or journalism

or any other relevant field from an accredited institution, or even KU,

or even

a certificate in mass communication plus some experience in that field.

So you can upgrade your certificate in journalism or mass communication at KU

to be a diploma, if you have had some experience in that field.

Diploma in Film and Theatre Arts

Theater, if you like acting and such, this could be a good one.

C minus at KCSE or equivalent

But also, you must prove that you have previously participated in

theater art, or film, or mass communication.

You can also be accepted into this program if you have a D+ at KCSE,

but you have a certificate already in

Theater arts

Film

Mass communication.

Teachers with a B1 certificate can also take this course, provided they have

a minimum of

division three

Like the others, they must also prove that they have participated in the past

in creative arts.

Diploma in Fine Arts

This is another diploma that you can do with a C minus at KCSE.

You need to have a mean grade of C minus, and for this one, you

must have a minimum of

C minus in design

If not, you can qualify for this diploma if you had

A certificate in Art design and a good portfolio of artworks.

For this one you have to go through an interview

Or a certificate in art and design from a recognized institution.

Another one acceptable is a portfolio of artworks.

But here you have to go through an interview, so these ones you are supposed

to show them to the selection panel.

Diploma in Hospitality Management

In the School of Business, Economics, and Tourism, you can also take a diploma in

hospitality management if you like the hospitality industry.

It is a C-. Also, you must have at least a D+ in the following subjects.

At least two of them, the first alternative is;

D+ in either English or Kiswahili, Chemistry, or Biology

If not so;

D+ in English, Kiswahili, or biological sciences, or physical sciences

or home science

So let me clarify that, English or Kiswahili D+ at least, then the other

D+ will have to come from either biological sciences or physical sciences

depending on the one that you took, or home science, so at least a D+ in this

combination or home science.

Finally, you can qualify for this program if you have a

D+ at KCSE

But you have already done a Certificate in an area related to hospitality

such as;

hotel and accommodation

catering

or even hospitality itself

And already you have two years of relevant work experience.

Diploma in Human Resource Management (TVET)

This is a good one. Again, you need a C- at KCSE, and you can also qualify

alternatively, if you had a mean grade of

D plus at KCSE, but you have done a certificate in HR from a recognized institution.

Diploma in Information Technology( IT )

This is a popular one, and you can do it if you have computers.

This is in the school of pure and applied sciences. C minus at KCSE or its equivalent

and you must have a;

C minus at least in math and English

If not so, have a

D+ at KCSE and add at least a C minus in both English and Kiswahili

And also, you must have a;

Certificate in IT.

So if you have a certificate in IT and you have at least a C minus in both

Maths and English, and at KCSE you had a D+, then you can also be taken.

Diploma in marketing (TVET)

You need a C minus at KCSC or its equivalent. You can also qualify for the

diploma in marketing if you have a D+ at KCSE, but you already

have done a certificate in marketing or a related area from KU or any other

accredited institution.

Diplom in music

C minus, and you must have at least a

C+ in music

Or if not so, have a

Certificate in Music with a credit pass from KU or ABRSM grade 5 theory and grade 4

practical.

Diploma in Project Management

C minus at KCSE or D plus at KCSE, but you have a certificate already in

project management from KNEC, KU, or any other accredited institution

Diploma in Project Monitoring and Evaluation

C minus at KCSE or a D+ plus and a certificate in a relevant line from KU or any other accredited institution, such as KNEC.

Diploma in Management and IT

This is also an option under the School of Pure and Applied Sciences.

C minus at KCSE or its equivalent, and you must have a

C minus in maths and English.

So that one is important. If not so, you can have a

D plus at KCSE, but with a certificate already in a related line, in addition to

having at least a C minus in both math and English

but having a D plus mean grade at KCSE plus a certificate already in records

management and IT from KNEC, KMTC, or any other accredited institution is

acceptable.

Diploma in sports administration and management.

If you have an interest in sports, you can do this one. C minus at KCSCE.

or have a;

P1 or S1 teacher certificate

KU certificate course in sports administration and management.

Diploma in Tourism Management

C minus at KCSE. You must have done any two of the following subjects

at KCSE and gotten a D minus in each one.

Biology or biological sciences, D+

Geography or History D+

Business educational computer studies D+

English/ any foreign language D+

If not so, have a D+ at KCSE and then a certificate in tourism or

a related line, plus 2 years of experience.

Diploma in Security Management and Police Studies

If you are working in the security sector, or maybe you are a police officer

and you want to get a promotion, do a diploma in security management and police studies.

This one needs a C minus at KCSE or equivalent, or even

A certificate in police studies from a recognized institution.

So those are the Kenyatta University TVET diploma courses that you can do

with a C minus.

For the KU application process, go to www.ku.ac.ke, and you will see the

option to apply there.

The fee is from Ksh 75,000 per year. KU diploma intake is mainly in

January and September.

So, apply early enough. And finally, note that for some of these courses, you can

actually learn online.

You don’t have to wait a whole year to repeat your KCSE: That’s because now we have KNEC Mid Year KCSE Exams.

Here are details about KNEC Mid Year KCSE Exams including how to register and who’s eligible.

KNEC Mid Year KCSE Exams (KNEC Mid year KCSE Repeat Exams)

KNEC(Kenya National Examinations Council) decided to introduce mid-year KCSE examination series, which are going to be done for the first time this coming July 2025.

What motivated KNEC?

Well, since KCSE is ending in 2026, KNEC and the ministry deemed it fit to come up with a programme to help you -and any other candidate- who wish to repeat their KCSE exam do so soonest before KCSE officially ends (remember we’re moved to CBC system)

UPDATE:

The High Court has temporarily halted mid-year KCSE exams so the whole registration process is currently suspended.

This is after one Dr. Magare Gikenyi filed a petition, challenging the initiative.

But the good news is that the ministry has said that they’re moving to court to apply for the lifting of the suspension.

Let’s hope for the best- be sure to keep an eye on newspapers, social media, and other news outlets to be updated about what the court decided upon appeal. We also expect KNEC and Ministry of Education to also publish official communications from time to time .

If you’re looking for guidelines about KNEC bridging courses, then you have come to the right place.

First, what are KNEC bridging courses?

Bridging courses meaning

KNEC bridging courses are short courses in which you re-sit subject/subjects you had failed at the KCSE, hoping to improve your grade.

The purpose of KNEC bridging courses is to help you meet the minimum entry requirements for your dream course.

For this reason, the bridging course acceptability might be limited to the college/university that is offering the course.

For example, to take some Diploma courses in Kenya, you need at least a C- (Certificate) in some subjects.

Subsequently, you will want to take a bridging course in Kenya to boost your grade, if you had a D+, for instance in such subjects.

Entry requirements for KNEC bridging courses

There’s no minimum grade for KNEC bridging courses (of course, apart from your KCSE certificate)- indeed, you can even ‘bridge’ a subject which you had previously score an E grade.

So what is important is to research what grades are required to take the course of your dreams then work hard – while bridging at the college you choose- since the primary purpose of the ‘bridging’ is to earn the minimum entry grade for the course.

How long do KNEC bridging courses take?

It takes just 6-9 months on average (depending on the institution you join out of the colleges offering bridging courses in Kenya) to bridge a KNEC subject.

You can attend studies fulltime, part-time (evening and mornings), or weekends- and even some colleges offering bridging courses online.

What subjects can you bridge in?

For the most part, you can bridge in sciences (chemistry, physics, and Biology) and maths.

TIME OUT

Thanks.

Now proceed reading below..

Are KNEC bridging courses recognized?

As mentioned, the goal of the program is to allow you reach the grade for the course so they’ll allow you to join your chosen course if you achieve that grade during your bridging exams.

So the main recognition awarded to these courses is by Universities -.

Otherwise, in some cases, the bridging may not be helpful when seeking employment if you don’t meet the stringent requirements set by employers.

Let’s take nursing for example:

To get admission for a nursing course (diploma) at KMTC, you must have a KCSE mean grade of C plain (at least) and the same grade subjects such as Biology and Chemistry.

Now, even if you bridge, KMTC won’t guarantee you admission with your bridging certificate at the moment- because of competition (there are more applicants than the available slots) and your efforts to join the nursing profession via bridging might fail.

That’s why we advise people to resit the KCSE (the whole exam) if you’re looking at getting KCSE grades that will get universal recognition even for courses in prestigious institutions such as KMTC.

But if you must take a bridging certificate, then first research if the university or institute that you are aiming to join (and the course you want to get admitted into) accepts bridging courses in the required/compulsory subjects before enrolling for a bridging course.

Note: In 2023, the Cabinet passed a resolution recognizing KNEC bridging courses as a way of enhancing access to University Education so they are now widely accepted and you could use them to join a degree program if you had not passed well in your KCSE.

Just make sure the institution you join is properly registered by KNEC to offer bridging courses in Kenya.

That said, bridging courses in Kenya may not be accepted by international bodies/institutions..

Intakes for bridging courses in Kenya

Colleges have their KNEC bridging courses intakes mostly at the beginning of the year (enquire in January) though some have continuous intakes.

Keep in mind that there aren’t so many colleges offering the program so it’s important to start your college search shortly immediately after getting your KCSE results, if you choose to pursue that path.

Institutions offering KNEC bridging courses in Kenya

You can enroll for bridging courses in these institutions for specific courses:

1. Bridge College-Nairobi

Bridge college is one of the most popular when it comes to bridging courses in Kenya.

You’ll be asked to provide clear copies of these documents:

Copy of your KCSE results

Copy of your KCPE Certificate

Copy of your Birth Certificate

4 coloured of your passport photo

Apply before 3 years (in January) from the date you did your KCSE examination- KNEC rules needs you to upgrade (if you want to do that) before the expiry of 3 years.

Again please apply early January- because once KNEC registration dates close, you may not get an opportunity.

2. Cooperative University – Nairobi

Contacts;

3. Catholic University

Does KMTC offer bridging courses?

No, KMTC doesn’t offer KNEC bridging courses through there was a time the college was offering internally-examined bridging courses in Chemistry, Math, Biology, and Physics.

These KMTC bridging courses aimed at helping applicants who didn’t achieve the minimum entry grades qualify for their favorite courses at KMTC.

The college stopped the bridging courses immediately the government started tightening the controls around admissions into KMTC and other higher education programs in Kenya.

Final word

A bridging course can help you stand a better chance of gaining direct entry into your dream course.

But unlike in the past days, it might not be beneficial outside gaining entry into your course (Diploma or Degree) as the government is very strict when it comes to some programmes.

Our advice is for you to repeat the whole KCSE exam -even if you have to do it as a private candidate- if you’re looking at getting grades that can help you in the long run.

When it comes to KNEC courses, candidates are awarded scores based on the KNEC grading system for colleges.

Below we look at the KNEC grading system for colleges and how the results of your KNEC examinations are classified including when the KNEC diploma grading system.

Now, for the whole examination, marks are issued in 5 classes while there are 8 different grades in the individual papers under the KNEC grading system for colleges.

Each candidate receives the results in terms of the class and grade depending on his/her performance in the final practical and theoretical tests and the continuous assessment tests (administered by the college being attended).

Here is the relationship between the various classes and grades according to the KNEC grading system.

KNEC refer rules

You are referred if you score below 39 (essentially meaning you have failed) in a paper in the KNEC exams for colleges and you have to pass the specific failed papers before being awarded with the relevant certificate.

In short, the overall grade will be as follows:

Aggregate fail

You’re awarded a fail if you failed (scored below 40 in 3 or more subjects out of the total units you were sitting for)- and your mean score is automatically less than 40.

Remember a below 40 score is indicated as a Refer in the individual subject score but the overall aggregate will automatically become a Fail if there are 3 or more subjects in which you’re referred).

So in that case, you have to repeat everything just as a new student(or perhaps change to a different course!)

But if you got a refer in two units(which means you failed 2 units out of the total you took), you will just resit those specific referred units (at your own convenience)

Of course, there is a fee for re-sitting KNEC examinations (charged on per paper basis) and you have to book for a resit via the KNEC online registration for technical exams portal (assisted by your college).

The good news is that you can still proceed to the next module/year even with your refer pending- and you can always book to repeat it at your own convenience- but you cannot get your final KNEC certificate/diploma until you have cleared your refer(s).

Aggregate pass

You get aggregate pass if your mean score (your total marks/total number of units)is between 40-59

Aggregate pass with credit

You get aggregate credit pass if your mean score (your total marks/total number of units)is between 60-74

Aggregate pass with distinction

You get an aggregate distinction pass if your mean score (your total marks/total number of units)is between 75-100

Current KNEC grading system -Other notables about the KNEC grading

Overall performance once again is indicated as:

PASS with DISTINCTION

PASS with CREDIT

PASS

FAIL

Needless to say, the highest passing score is a Distinction and Pass the least.

A score of ‘EXEMPTED’ means that you have been exempted from a paper on the account of having passed an equivalent qualification from another accredited examiner.

I have already explained how you get a FAIL.

KNEC TVET grading system – Final thoughts

The above relationship applies to both certificate (artisan and craft levels) and the diploma grading system in Kenya for KNEC exams including most KNEC higher diploma courses.

The above KNEC college grading system is, however, different from the current KNEC ECDE grading system and P1 grading system.

This guide explains the KNEC registration process for private candidates.

And as you might be aware, KNEC provides this option for those who wish to upgrade their KCSE grade (repeating form four) or just get a KCSE certificate for the first time.

Let’s dive right in.

UPDATE: KNEC has introduced Mid Year KCSE Exams for those who would like to repeat…And that could be your best option instead of waiting a whole year, to resit your KCSE. Remember KCSE is ending in 2026 so you only have a short window to repeat/do your KCSE!

Read more about how to register for KNEC Mid year KCSE Exams below:

KNEC Mid Year KCSE Exams (KNEC Mid year KCSE Repeat Exams)

KNEC registration private candidates – the process

KNEC has simplified the process of registering for KCSE exams as a private candidate and all you have to do now is download and fill the KNEC private candidate registration form from their website.

You’re then required to present the completed form to your sub-county’s director of education.

The sub county education office will also guide you on the existing KCSE private registration centres in your sub county – you can request to be placed in a center that is convenient for you.

Note that you will sit your exam in one of the schools appointed as a KCSE private exam center in your sub county (KNEC permits only one private K.C.S.E examination centre in every sub county).

Official requirements to register as a private KCSE candidate in Kenya

You will be asked to supply the following documents when registering:

Passport size photo (2 copies).

Birth certificate copy (1 copy).

A copy of your KCPE certificate.

Besides, a duration of not less than 3 years should have passed since you wrote your KCPE exam if you’re a first time private candidate.

Form 4 repeaters were previously required to spend two years out in the cold before re-attempting the KCSE exam but this condition has since been abolished after a review of the KCSE guidelines.

KNEC registration private candidates- how much is the examination fees?

If you’re taking 7 subjects, expect to pay about shs.5500/-.

The charges may, however, go up with an extra shs.200-shs.500 per extra exam depending on whether the paper is practical or theory.

The maximum number of papers you can sit is presently capped at 9.

Note: The fee keep on varying so it is important to contact your local sub-county education office /KNEC for final confirmation

Kenya national examination council registration for private candidates- payment of fees

While regular students ought to deposit the examination fees straight into any of the various KNEC collection bank accounts at National Bank, KCB, Co-operative Bank, or Equity bank branch, private students pay through the account you’re given by the sub-county education officer helping you.

Just request him/her to supply you with the details about the bank account account you are required to pay into- normally, each sub-county will have a unique bank account.

Once you pay, the deposit slip copy should be handed over to your sub county’s director of education along with the rest of the requested registration documents (as explained next).

He/she will ultimately transfer the entire amount (from all the private candidates who have registered through his/her office) to KNEC.

KNEC registration private candidates – when is the KCSE registration deadline?

To be eligible, you are supposed to submit the form and pay the applicable exam fees before the expiry of the set KCSE private candidate registration period.

Now, KNEC usually announces the deadline date through the media but I recommend that you contact your sub county’s education office soonest possible for confirmation as it will allow you to make the necessary arrangements.

Important: Keep in mind that the usual deadline for KCSE private candidate registration is 28th February. Of course, this may change as a result of special situations (such as the pandemic) or as KNEC/ministry of education deems fit. That is why we keep on insisting that the best approach to be sure of deadlines is to get in touch with your sub-county’s education office ASAP.

KNEC registration private candidates- A word on late registration

KNEC used to extend the exam registration period by a couple of days after the official deadline but this is no longer the case for both KCSE and KCPE exams.

It’s, therefore, crucial that you adhere to the deadline you’re given by the sub county education official.

Final thoughts

To boost your chances of scoring a good grade in your KCSE as a private candidate, consider enrolling in one of the adults secondary schools in Kenya such as Clevers schools or at least a secondary school near you especially for practicals.

There are schools that offer bridging courses you can consider too accross the country.

You can also hire a private KCSE tutor or use the KCSE study materials at your nearest Kenya National Library Services branch.

Also helpful during revision are KNEC past papers (search for them online or sweet-talk your teachers).

PS: You can contact Mr. Michael Obiero of Pan African Girls High School on 0724 679 057 0r 0789 881 380 if you’d prefer to bridge/resit your KCSE exam as a private candidate. He will help with everything including booking you for the resit and enrolling you for classes(if you’d like to be a private candidate).

KNEC artisan courses are best for students who wish to work as artisans.

This article looks at the KNEC artisan courses(now called CDACC Level 4 because CDACC is replacing KNEC as the primary examiner in TVET institutions under CBET), their basic qualifications, and their structure.

I shall also expound on what to consider when comparing the various KNEC artisan courses (CDACC Level 4 courses).

But before everything, let’s explain who an artisan is.

Who is an Artisan?

Simply put, an artisan a person who is anyone with hands-on skills in a certain technical area.

In other words, you will be providing skilled manual labour in fields such as water technology (plumbing), engineering (electrical/mechanical/automotive etc), fashion, building technology, and more.

You get the required skills/expertise by enrolling for the matching KNEC artisan course (CDACC Level 4 course) at your selected TVET college and passing the relevant KNEC (CDACC) exams (held every March and July across the country).

How is a typical working day for artisans?

On a day-to-day basis, artisans in technical sectors are involved in tasks like manufacturing/assembling of tools or equipment such as machines.

They are also make end products such as garments, toys, shoes etc. for various markets.

At other times, artisans help find faults in industrial machines, motor vehicles, and electronics.

They as well repair and service such items.

On the other hand, graduates of business-based KNEC artisan courses such as storekeeping undertake clerical tasks and selected administrative tasks delegated to them by their seniors.

Training structure for KNEC artisan courses (CDACC Level 4 Courses)

You are taught both theoretical concepts (essential to grasping the practical sessions) and practical skills.

Needless to say, most of the training is hands-on now that you’re preparing for a career which is largely practical oriented.

To facilitate this, KNEC artisan courses (CDACC Level 4 courses) are offered in the form of units and you’re expected to pass all units (most courses have four units) to become a nationally recognized artisan.

Besides, students must attend a 3-month industrial attachment in an organization engaged in tasks related to what they’re learning.

You can confirm the specific units/subjects in the CDACC course outline (provided by your lecturer or from CDACC’s website) for the program you have in mind.

How long to KNEC artisan courses (CDACC Level 4 courses) take?

On average, you can complete the course in 1 – 2 years depending on the programme and your level of education.

The good thing is that you can start earning even before you complete the course.

And that’s by creating products like clothes, tools, toys, and furnishings using the knowledge you gain step-by-step as you progress with your course.

Progression opportunities for KNEC artisan courses (CDACC Level 4 courses)

Ambitious students can use their artisan certificates to apply for admission into KNEC craft certificate courses (Now CDACC Level 5 courses) and later a specialized diploma (CDACC Level 6 Diploma) in your particular study area.

These programmes take 2-3 years in any accredited TVET college in Kenya.

Minimum entry requirements for KNEC artisan certificate courses (CDACC Level 4 courses)

The minimum admission mean grade to join a TVET artisan programme is actually grade E.

Why join an Artisan programme

You could be wondering whether KNEC artisan courses (CDACC Level 4 courses) are really worth it.

Well, they are and they could turn out to be a great opportunity for you.

Take a look at some of the reasons that make KNEC artisan courses (CDACC Level 4 courses) a worthy investment:

A University degree isn’t for everyone– Of course, we can’t all fit into the present university structure in Kenya, and that’s fine. Indeed, utilized wisely, the skills you get from artisan course could earn you more than a university degree holder in your lifetime.

You can become an entrepreneur– let’s face it: jobs are hard to come by in Kenya and it’s crucial that you take a course that allows you to open a business. Now, most KNEC artisan courses (CDACC Level 4 courses) can lead to self-employment. You can, for instance, build a thriving design fashion line using the skills you obtained from your fashion design artisan course.

Abundance of opportunities– The demand for qualified tradesmen/women in Kenya has been rising in the last few years and is expected to remain stable in the foreseeable future. That means plenty of openings for you in both the public and private sectors.

KNEC Artisan course list and codes (TVET-CDACC Level 4 courses)

To view a list of TVET-CDACC Level 4 (artisan) courses and the basic entry grades, go to the KUCCPS portal:

Where to enroll for your desired CDACC Level 4 Artisan course

99% of TVETA accredited colleges and technical institutes (private and public) offer CDACC Level 4 Artisan course.

In fact, KUCCPS has listed some of the colleges (public) teaching each course in the portal to help you decide where to attend training.

Final word

It’s important to note that for some courses, you write relevant NITA (National Industrial Training Authority) grade test and not KNEC exams.

These include programs such as plumbing, food processing, electrical installation, Solar Photo Voltaic, Hair dressing & beauty therapy, and more.

Your college will advise you about the applicable examination body at the time of booking for your exam.

Good luck with whatever CDACC Level 4 artisan course you choose.

We shall also highlight a couple of the challenges facing KNEC in the discharge of its responsibilities.

Functions of KNEC : Summary of KNEC’s Core Functions

According to KNEC act, the Kenya National examination council is mandated to undertake the following functions.

Set and maintain the required examinations standards.

Challenges Facing KNEC

Lastly, we look at the various challenges facing KNEC currently.

· Technological challenges

Some of the teachers assigned the responsibility to book students for the national examinations are not technologically savvy leading to delays or entry of wrong data on the KNEC portal when registering candidates for exams.

Poor transport network

KNEC faces immense challenges in delivering exam papers during national examinations especially in seasons of heavy rainfall due to lack of good roads in some regions of Kenya.

Lack of ethics/corruption

Despite the laudable improvement in the implementation of exam controls and safeguarding procedures, KNEC is still encountering cases of attempted cheating when administering national exams because of a lack of ethics among some students and teachers.

Lack of resources

Another obstacle hindering the council from successfully executing the above-explained functions of KNEC is insufficient budgetary allocations.

As a result, the council is unable to fund support activities, for instance, research in areas such as the emerging assessment standards.

Poor cooperation

Some of the stakeholders, for example, selected privately-run institutions fail to avail required exam administration resources such as ICT infrastructure effectively hampering the smooth running of the exam administration process.
