If want to pursue civil engineering and your dream institution is UoN (University of Nairobi), below are the University of Nairobi civil engineering entry requirements …

So read on to find out if you’re qualified for the programme and other details including the fee structure for the course.

University of Nairobi civil engineering entry requirements -Minimum Requirements to be admitted into the Bsc. (Bachelor of Science) degree in Civil Engineering at the UoN.

KCSE Candidates – form 4 leavers

If you are recently sat for KCSE – and this will be your first course, the basic admission requirements are as follows:

KCSE Mean Grade (Overall grade) – C+ …Remember that this is the usual requirement for any degree course in Public Universities in Kenya.

Cluster subjects and requirements

In addition to your C+ mean grade, you must satisfy the following minimum requirements in the cluster subjects to have a chance of being admitted for the course:

Subject and grade

Mathematics- C+ (at least)

Physics- C+ (at least)

Chemistry- C+ (at least)

Biology/Geography- C+ (at least)….either one of the subjects

What you should know is that unless you’re applying as a self-sponsored student, having the above minimum requirements does not guarantee you admission.

Why?

Because if you apply through KUCCPS- as a government sponsored student- aiming to get financial help (There is government subsidy/capitation, scholarships, and even HELB loans), the course becomes quite competitive.

In fact, more often than not, only A students get a chance to study the course at the University of Nairobi since there are only a limited number of vacancies (yet so many apply to go to the UoN).

So yes, try your luck but if you did not pass exemplarily, I am afraid that you may have to go the self-sponsored route or take the course elsewhere (some universities accepts slightly lower grades)

Diploma Candidates (holders of a diploma qualification in civil or related engineering area)

You can apply with your Diploma certificate if you have done a Diploma in civil (or a related engineering area)

You may also be eligible if you have a Higher National Diploma(HND) issued by KNEC -or its equivalent- in Civil Engineering (or a related engineering area)

BSc/BEd(Science) degree holders

The other acceptable qualification is either a Bachelor of Science (BSc.) or a Bachelor of Education (Bed) degree in Mathematics and Physics from accredited institutions.

Oher relevant degree might be considered subject to approval by the School of Engineering Board working together with the senate.

What you need to keep in mind is that you may get a few credit transfers –enabling you to finish the course in a shorter time- if you apply with qualifications such as the KNEC HND (higher national diploma) or its equivalent.

University of Nairobi civil engineering fees (UoN civil engineering fee structure)

The fees has been adjusted and is now about Kshs.360,000 (max) per year.

But as I had told you, if you join through KUCCPS, you may pay less thanks to the government subsidy/capitation and scholarships, depending on your financial background/situation..

Another way to reduce the financial burden on your parents or sponsor is by applying for a HELB loan.

Course duration

5 years
