Law Vs Nursing Course in Kenya- Which is Better?

We are comparing Law course in Kenya Vs Nursing Course in Kenya because some of you have requested us to compare the two ..they want help in making the right career choice decision

Law Vs Nursing Course in Kenya- Which is Better?

Entry requirements

Law courses in Kenya qualifications

Nursing Course Qualifications

LLB.- B plain mostly and above

Bsc.Nursing- C+ Clusters differ

Diploma-C plain but not recommended

Diploma-C Plain

No Certificate in Law in Kenya

Certificate-C Minus

For law, Doing a Degree is the best..and it is competitive..you will see the cluster points..quite high. For Nursing, even a certificate will suffice to get your feet through the door…

Which course is more demanding to learn (is it harder to become a nurse or lawyer)?

Law school is more demanding than nursing- especially passing the KSL Exams, people struggle a lot and you must pass that to be admitted to the bar

Nursing relatively easier..yeah, some work still but comparatively easier. The licensing exams aren’t failed as the KSL exams

Training Duration

Law can take you upto 6 years to get admitted to the bar (LLB + KSL diploma duration ..and you may not pass the first time)

A certificate can take as little as 2 years…diploma is 3 years..degree is longer..but generally, even if you add the practicum period, you still graduate ahead of that cousin of yours who went to do law

Salary/Potential Earnings – Law course in Kenya Vs Nursing

Lawyers can earn more- underline the word CAN because it depends on your strategy and how hard you work to execute it. You could earn much more if you open own firm or become a partner in a big firm. Senior counsel even work with politicians and pocket big money.

On the other hand, nurses, like engineers and maybe technicians , work in a flat-paying industry. But that means their pay is predictable..you can have peace of mind unlike lawyers where final pay could depend on commissions/bonuses

So if you are looking for a career with steady, predictable salary, nursing is amazing…but if you want riches, go for law (but work hard)

Family Time – Nursing and Law degree compared

If your priority is having enough time with your family then go with law..it is demanding yes but lawyers have more flexibility and can work from home sometimes.

Nursing can be tricky family timewise especially when you are not a specialist because of night shifts though you can always swap your shifts to match the times your family is available..i haven’t heard of a lawyer working at night anyway. My opinion though.

Jobs abroad prospects

Nurses are in huge demand worldwide and you can easily fly to go work in Australia, Uk, Germany, ETC..US tricky for now

Lawyers? I have not seen many of them go work in the diaspora because each country’s legal system is different and they prefer own trained..unless you go for your degree in law there.

On Morals and Risk

Nursing is super meaningful and satisfying…nobody will attempt to corrupt you.

Lawyer often meet parties who want to compromise their morals (anyway, that is one of the ways they end up making more money). Unless you are working for NGOs or doing advocacy. It can be risky too because you may step on the toes of dangerous parties such as police and power brokers. Especially if you eventually become a judge/magistrate

Which is more stressful?

Nursing needs a lot of compassion as you are dealing with some very sickly people sometimes so it can be stressful if it is not your calling

Law can be fun…people are not dying in your hands and courts can be quite humorous sometimes despite the work pressure (because sometimes you work overnight preparing defenses etc)

Law Vs Nursing Course in Kenya -CONCLUSION

No one can choose the best for you. these are completely different courses and career paths so choose what you feel will give you the satisfaction you need in life.

If you go for law, Diploma in Nursing is a good to start..even a BSC. In Nursing Is fine.

And if you go for law, go for an LLB at Unis such as Daystar, KU, and the like.

If you missed out on nursing in KMTC – or you don’t want to compete with the thousands applying for the course at KMTC- maybe you should consider enrolling in one of the Private Universities Offering Nursing in Kenya.

I have checked them out and they are as follows:

Private Universities Offering Nursing in Kenya

AGA KHAN UNIVERSITY – Nairobi and very popular (Owned by the Aga Khan family)

AMREF INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY-Nairobi

BARATON UNIVERSITY – Nandi County

DAYSTAR UNIVERSITY – Nairobi, Church owned

GREAT LAKES UNIVERSITY-Kisumu (Run by the Tropical Institute 0f Community Health & Development or TICH Trust)

KABARAK UNIVERSITY-Nakuru (Owned by the Moi Family)

KENYA HIGHLANDS UNIVERSITY-Kericho, owned by Africa Gospel Church

KENYA METHODIST UNIVERSITY-Meru (Owned by the Methodist Church in Kenya)

MT. KENYA UNIVERSITY-Thika (Owned by Simon Gicharu and trustees)

ST. PAUL’S UNIVERSITY-Kiambu (Owned by about 5 different churches including Anglican Church, PCEA, Methodist Church, Reformed Church, and the NCCK)

UMMA UNIVERSITY-Kajiado (Serves the Muslim community mostly)

UNITED STATES INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY(USIU)-Nairobi (Not for profit institution)

UZIMA UNIVERSITY-Catholic Church Owned (Kisumu)

ZETECH UNIVERSITY-Thika Road

Note that most of these offer the BScN (Pre Service) Programme though a few offer the BScN (In Service – As a PART TIME programme)

I’d recommend that you apply as soon as possible if your dream is to become a nurse..of course we keep saying that nursing is one of the most in demand courses out there.

To apply, go to their respective websites and first familiarize yourself with the requirements and intake details. Then you can choose to apply online or physically (you visit them)

Of course, this information is publicly available from the Nursing Council Website and remember that the Nursing council is the body that controls and regulates the training and licensing of nurses in Kenya (so nursing courses in Kenya fall under them).

Mortuary Science Course in Kenya…Is it the best course?

most of you have been going for this course

and we have been getting a lot of questions

is it marketable what are the qualifications

where can I start this

now if you are thinking about doing Mortary Science as a course

I’ll help you make the right decision today

I’ll be answering your questions like what is it all about

how is the structure where can you study this

most importantly where are the opportunities

are there enough jobs is it marketable

and what career progression chances are there for you

remember to give us a subscription if you’re on TikTok

remember to give us a like and a follow

because we want to keep connecting with you

and we want to keep helping you make the right career move

so to start with what is the course all about

basically it will make you a professional

we call mortician what does a mortician do

a mortician is that guy who works mainly in funeral homes

they work mainly in funeral homes

what do they do okay

morticians do the following

preservation of bodies

embalming

preparation

of

bodies for funeral

and such

so basically these are the guys who will be in charge of handling

bodies of people who have left this earth

so they receive the bodies

and they make sure that the body is kept in the right way

its clean

is preserved the right way

until the day this body will be going out for funeral

this guys also

they could be involved in a few other procedures for example

when there are procedures such as post mortem

they could complement pathologist

these guys

may also be involved in preparation for things like cremation

they are involved in several other tasks here and there again

all related to handling of dead bodies regarding training

the course is really comprehensive

you are taught so many things from anatomy and physiology

is a bit of understanding human body aembalming and restorative art

microbiology grief counselling

because sometimes you need to to counsel families that are mourning

forensic medicine it’s quite comprehensive

because

the goal is to make you

a professional mortician who can serve the mourning family

compassionately treat them the right way

now what are the requirements

you need a C minus

you need a diploma you need a C minus you have a diploma and uh

there are no there are no cluster requirements

for the certificate

I have seen a few institutions

accepting you to take the course at the certificate level

with just a D plain the number of institutions offering this course

if you can get a chance

KMTC I see is one of those offering this certification

there are a few others including

Goshen

medical

and Training College we have I C M H

S and this one is in Thika we have MediPrime

training college

while still there

is good to know that you do not just work in hospitals

you could also work in forensic labs

because there’s a bit of forensic medicine

this is where they investigate matters to do with death

maybe there’s some investigations about a sudden death

and also you could open your own mortuary and go into private practise

in terms of duration the diploma

is three years

the cert will take up to two years

of course you can progress from the certificate to the diploma

and now to the big question

is it marketable?

let’s look at the numbers

how many counties do we have in Kenya

I think we have about 47

let us assume that on average each county will have

10 funeral homes

and I know there are some which don’t have that many

let’s assume that each funeral home will have

10 people in the mortuary

and don’t forget some of them are very small

so they don’t have a lot of people

but let’s assume that each home will have on average

10 staff working directly with the bodies

so that gives us about 4,700

so those are the positions okay

forget about forensic labs

forget about humanitarian missions because they are not day to day

you are looking at solid positions

so it’s safe to conclude that could be in the whole of Kenya

we may not have more than 5,000

let us even say 5,000 positions for mortuary attendants

morticians

so when I see a lot of people applying for this course

I get a bit worried because I ask myself

where will these people go to work

when many of them have actually graduated because i can see

you could see that we don’t have so many opportunities

we may not have

that big number of opportunities for morticians in our country

unless you want to go and start your own private facility

which is a good thing

so I am not saying that this course is not marketable

but looking at these numbers

then you could see that there is a risk of you

people ending up doing this course so many of you

and there’s nowhere you are getting absorbed

you make sure you make the right decision

but again I say if you can do this with an entrepreneur mind fine

so I’m not saying again that its a bad course

but make sure that you make the right decision

alright guys remember to give us a like

remember to give us a follow
