Cluster points for clinical medicine in JKUAT

If you log in to the KUCCPS portal, you’ll see that the Bachelor of Science in Clinical Medicine is one of the courses with the highest cluster point requirements at JKUAT.

2019 cut-off points – 42.137

2020 cut-off points – 42.521

2021 cut-off points – 42.693

With that in mind, let’s look at some other important details about the JKUAT clinical medicine programs.

 JKUAT Bachelor of Science in Clinical Medicine requirements

Minimum entry requirements: A KCSE mean grade of C+ (plus)

In addition, you must meet one of the following requirements:

Alternative A

• C+ (plus) in Biology
• C+ (plus) in Chemistry
• C+ (plus) in either Mathematics or Physics
• C+ (plus) in either English or Kiswahili

Alternative B

• Biological Sciences – C+ (plus)
• Physical Sciences – C+ (plus)
• Mathematics – C+ (plus)
• English/Kiswahili – C+ (plus)

Besides, diploma holders in clinical medicine and surgery from a recognized institution with a credit pass are also considered and begin in the second year.

Additionally, higher national diploma holders in clinical medicine and surgery from a recognized institution are eligible to join at the third year level.

Other details:

Course duration: Four (4) academic years plus one year paid internship

Mode of study: Full-time and part-time (part-time classes are usually held on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays)

Tuition fees: Kshs. 330,480 per academic year

JKUAT diploma in clinical medicine requirements

To be eligible for admission to this diploma program, you must meet the following minimum requirements:

Minimum entry requirements:

A KCSE mean grade of C (plain) with at least a C (plain) in Biology and a C (plain) in either English or Kiswahili.

In addition, you must have a C- (minus) in any two of the following subjects: Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, and Physical Sciences.

Course duration: Three (3) years

Mode of study: Full-time

Tuition fees: Kshs. 152,805per academic year

JKUAT intakes

JKUAT typically holds three intakes per year. That is in the months of January, May, and September. So, keep an eye out for when admissions are open and apply for the course.

How to apply

To apply for either the diploma or bachelor’s program in clinical medicine at JKUAT, you must apply online through the JKUAT application portal or as a government-sponsored student through the KUCCPS portal.

The steps to take are as follows:

Online application via JKUAT’s website:

1. Navigate to the admissions section on the JKUAT website.
2. Choose a course from the available programs—in our case, clinical medicine.
3. Fill out the online application form completely and accurately.
4. Attach all necessary supporting documents, such as academic transcripts, ID/passport, or birth certificate, and relevant academic certificates.
5. Finally, double-check all of the information, submit your application, and make sure to pay any application fees.

Following that, wait for the admissions process to be completed, after which JKUAT will notify you of the outcome and, if accepted, provide further instructions on enrollment and registration.

Application through the KUCCPS portal

The following are the steps to take when applying through the KUCCPS portal (when it opens for applications):

1. Go to the KUCCPS application portal by clicking here.
2. To log in, enter your KCSE index, followed by the year and password.
3. Next, check for JKUAT and its programs.
4. Then, choose the clinical medicine program and add it to your course basket.
5. Then, select the application/revision tab, enter the program codes, and submit your selections.
6. Finally, pay the Kshs. 1,500 application fee through Mpesa.
